Experience with tools and processes utilised in the repair and maintenance of school properties. ! Experience in the overall care and maintenance of gardens and grounds Desirable ! Ground improvement and enhancement activities including ability to work with timber and general handyman work equivalent to that required of a non-qualified tradesperson Essential Knowledge & Competencies Required Essential 1 ! Contribute to the efficient and effective operation and environment of the school by providing a high level of facilities and grounds care support to the Principal/Business Services Manager ! Perform a range of activities to ensure that school facilities and grounds are maintained to a high standard of neatness, tidiness, safety and hygiene ! Contribute to the beautification, enhancement of appearance and safety of the school’s grounds. Desirable ! Good written and oral communication skills ! Demonstrated sound personal qualities of tact, reliability and an ability to work with others both individually and as a member of a team ! Position Objective The Maintenance position exists to coordinate the provision of basic property maintenance including the care of gardens and repair for non-technical items and supervise and facilitate technical repairs and maintenance of buildings under the direction of the Business Manager and the Principal. The Maintenance officer has a high level of communication and interpersonal skills which contributes to building strong community relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and other individuals to enhance learning community of the school. The maintenance officer has a sound knowledge of tools, equipment and materials commonly used in repairs with Occupational Health and Safety precautions, standards and guidelines applied at all times to ensure safety. Evidence / Expected Outcomes ! ability to work with limited supervision ! ability to use and maintain or learn quickly to use and maintain: o photocopiers and printing machines; o portable hand tools, gardening and cleaning equipment and general landscaping equipment; and o computers with pre-established programs. ! ability to apply Workplace Health and Safety standards especially on the use, application and storage of petrol, LP gas, insecticides, herbicides, fertilisers and chemicals ! awareness of the need for security in relation to buildings, access, personal property and equipment. Significant Duties Ground improvement and enhancement activities: ! care of lawns and gardens etc, including regular mowing and the use of appropriate insecticides and fertilisers where necessary. (Refer to OHS guidelines and procedures) ! preparation and maintenance of school ovals by way of regular mowing, watering etc and soil maintenance. (Refer OHS guidelines and procedures). ! planting, watering and care of trees, shrubs etc ! regular services and general maintenance of grounds care equipment ie: mowers, brush cutters, tractors etc. (as per manufacturers’ service manuals). 4 Monitor school facilities and bring to appropriate attention any repairs required/safety hazards: maintaining School facilities by attending to/or arranging repairs to furniture, equipment, locks, windows: monitor the maintenance data base and update all jobs, email when completed liaise with relevant staff regarding requests prioritise maintenance task after liaising with Business Manager and Facilities Manager decide whether the maintenance can be completed by the school’s Maintenance personnel or by an outside agency then confirm with Business manager prior to booking trades people ! ensure that the repair has been satisfactorily completed. ! ! ! ! ! Setting up of College facilities for major school events ! ! ! ! ! preparation of class rooms for examinations. preparation of activity/assembly halls, where applicable, including moving furniture arranging/seating etc. removal and relocation of furniture from room to room. preparation of class rooms for Parent/Teacher Interviews maintain the hygiene standards of Barbeque facilities and ensure gas bottles are adequately supplied and services Significant Internal/External Interactions ! Communicating with Persons Outside the schools – external companies for supply purchases ! communicating with Supervisors, Peers and keeping communication channels open with staff when working alone. Authorities (Delegation) The position of Maintenance and Outdoor Staff member is responsible to the Principal and will report directly to the Business Manager.
