These are in addition to the Regional Show Holidays.
PUBLIC HOLIDAYS FOR FULL-TIMERS AND PART-TIMERS
1. Where your store does not open for trade on
a public holiday, and you would have been
rostered to work, you will be paid at your base
rate of pay including any applicable penalties for
the hours normally rostered to work.
2. Where your store opens for trade on a public
holiday, a permanent team member normally
rostered to work may choose to:
(a)work and they will be paid the public
holidays penalty rate; or
(b) not work and they will be paid at your base
rate of pay including any applicable penalties
for the hours normally rostered to work.
3 (i). For full-time team members, if a non-working
day falls on a public holiday, you will receive by
mutual agreement either:
(a) an additional day’s pay; or
(ii). For part-time team members, you shall be
entitled to (a), (b), (c) or (d) above where you
work an alternating roster and the public
holiday falls on a day on which you work in any
week of your roster cycle.
(iii). A part-time team members who works 20
starts per 4 week cycle, whose non-working day
falls on a public holiday, shall be entitled to (a),
(b), (c) or (d) above.
4. ENGAGEMENT ACROSS TWO DAYS
(a) Where the majority of your shift falls on a
public holiday, the entire shift shall be regarded
as the public holiday.
(b) Where a team member is rostered for a shift
with an equal number of hours on a public
holiday and on the day before a public holiday
the entire shift shall be treated as a public
holiday for all purposes of the Agreement.
(c) Where a team member is rostered for a shift
with an equal number of hours on a public
holiday and the day after a public holiday the
entire shift shall be treated as a normal shift for
all purposes of the Agreement.
5. EASTER SUNDAY
Because of the strong lobbying by the SDA, Easter
Sunday has been legislated as a public holiday
throughout Queensland.
From 2017, Easter Sunday is treated just like any
other public holiday on the calendar. Members
can now choose whether to work or not, enjoy
the non-working day benefit and be paid public
holiday penalties if they choose to work.
(b) another day off with pay with next period of
annual leave; or
(c) another day off with pay in the week prior to
the public holiday; or
(d) another day off with pay within 28 days after
the public holiday. If agreement can not be
reached within 28 days after the public holiday
(a) will apply.

SOME COMMON QUESTIONS
Q. What happens if a Public Holiday falls in my
Holidays?
A. Don’t worry. You do not lose your
entitlement to the public holiday.
Q. Do roster changes affect my entitlement to
public holidays?
A No, your roster cannot be changed to
avoid payment of penalties, loadings or other
benefits. Should this occur you are still entitled
to the benefit. If you are unsure of how this
entitlement may affect you, please contact
your Shop Steward or Union Organiser at the
Union Office.
Q. Do I have to work on a public holiday?
A. Even though the company’s objective is
for all employees to be available to work a
minimum of 50% of public holidays when the
business is able to trade, all work on a public
holiday for ALL team members is voluntary. I
repeat, VOLUNTARY.
FOR WORK PERFORMED ON A PUBLIC HOLIDAY, THE
FOLLOWING RATES SHALL APPLY:
The full-time or part-time Store Team Member’s
hourly rate for public holidays (250%).

Note: A casual team member receives an extra 150%
more than the normal 125% Monday to Saturday
rate. The Casual Store Team Member’s hourly rate
for Public Holidays (275%).
