MEDIA RELEASE 25th May 2017 Move over it’s a convoy coming to Mannum’s Main Street In the words of the famous singer songwriter CW McCall, ‘Mercy sakes alive, looks like we got us a convoy’, well Mannum certainly will have a convoy when then township comes alive with trucks from across 3 States for the annual SA Truck and Ute Show on the Sunday of the June long weekend. The big prime provers, utes and 4 wheel drives will roll into Mannum creating a spectacle like no other as they line the main street of Mannum and the picturesque Mary Ann Reserve. The 2016 event attracted over 9000 people, featured $18.5m worth of vehicles on show and drove on to win the Mainstreets SA award for the second time for Best Event under 50K. The Truck and Ute Show showcases state of the art truck and ute design said Dave Burgess, Mayor, Mid Murray Council. “I am sure if the Shearer Brothers were alive today and walked down Mannum’s main street on the day would amaze as to where vehicle production and engineering has been taken since their internationally acclaimed ingenuity to build Australia’s first steam car in Mannum in 1898, ten year’s before Henry Ford”. Over 40 Show n Shine categories will attract competitors and enthusiasts with fun categories including Most Truck Aerials, Most Ute Stickers, Best Feral Ute and the Dirtiest 4 Wheel Drive. The symphony of horns sounding as the big rigs make their way into town and on departure is an amazing experience said Petrea Sanchez, Chairperson, Mannum Progress Association. “The event has expanded over the past 4 years attracting amazing crowds and we see many supporters back each year vying for the prestigious perpetual trophy for the ‘Best Truck of the Show’ category”. Two stages with live country music will entertain visitors in the traditional trucking theme songs with the City Cowboys and Lee Brocky & Outback Overdrive and the PS Marion will offer one hour cruises from Mary Ann Reserve. Mannum may not have C W McCall, his famous Pig Pen or Rubber Duck on the CB with his memorable trucking words ‘Calling all Trucks, this here’s the Duck” but ‘Breaker Breaker’ here is Mannum’s Main Street and this date in June will be a big 10/4 to see the unique spectacle of a trucking, ute and 4WD convoy descending upon their magnificent riverside township for everyone to enjoy! Entry is only $5.00 and children under 16 are free. Main street opens at 10.00 a.m. and events concludes at 4pm Free parking and shuttle bus will be available at the Mannum Football Oval to take you to Mannum’s main street and Mary Ann Reserve.
