Saturday 1st July saw the conclusion of the 2017 Victorian Clubs ISSF Trench Series with Round 3 held at Melbourne
Gun Club. 6 squads attended the last round where the Series High Guns were also determined.
Carrying on from the success of the 2016 Series, those who competed were asked for some feedback on any possible
improvements that could be made this year. The feedback was adopted with Overall being paid during each Round
together with both 1st and 2nd in each Grade. Sashes were also given to the Overall placegetter of each Round and all
Series High Gun winners from Overall, Grades and Ladies and Juniors.
Werribee, Melbourne and Frankston Clay Target Clubs must be commended on their professionalism and dedication
to the ISSF Trench discipline by really joining forces for the benefit of the Shooters. Without this “working together”
the Series would not be possible. $1750 in cash prizes were paid out over the 3 Rounds with an additional $985 in
cash paid out for High Gun prizes. The three Clubs also shared the cost of $400 in sashes.
Over the three Rounds in 2017 it was great to see 57 shooters compete including 6 Ladies and 14 Juniors. C Grade
had the highest representation and awesome to see some shooters giving ISSF Trench a go when it might not
necessarily be their preferred discipline!
Nidal Asmar won the “Most Improved” award of the Series showing huge improvement from his performance in
2016 where he shot rounds of 69,78 and 78 (75%). 2017 saw Nidal shoot rounds of 83, 88 and 86 (86%) and even win
a place in Round 2.
Penny Smith was again the stand out of the Series this year taking Ladies in Round 1,
Overall in Round 2, A Grade in Round 3 and the prestigious Overall Series High Gun with a
score of 187/200.
Missing Round 1, Mitchell Iles was reliant on two big scores in
Round 2 and Round 3 to get him over the line…and success he
had! Mitchell won AA in Round 2 and placed 2nd in AA in Round
3 finishing on a score of 183/200 and securing the Series High
Gun for his Grade, and advancing on the Junior Series High Gun he won in 2016.
Todd Malone took the A Grade Series High Gun with a score of 178/200, Mark Boyce the
B Grade Series High Gun with a score of 164/200 and Clint Bugter the C Grade Series
High Gun with 167/200. Charlie Hudson Czerniecki took the Junior Series High Gun with
159/200 and Alexis Preston the Ladies Series High Gun with 145/200.
A big thank you to everyone who supported this event and looking forward to the return of this Series in 2018!
