The In Honor of Our Troops (IHOOT) Charity Golf Tour Supports Our Nation’s Heroes and their Families
The In Honor of Our Troops (IHOOT) Foundation began creating Wounded Warrior and Veteran
Awareness programs in Washington, DC when seriously war wounded personnel began arriving at
Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda from Iraq and Afghanistan. The IHOOT Vacations for
Vets Program provides rest, recuperation and healing to help Wounded Warriors, service men, women,
veterans and their families reestablish healthy family relationships following war and long separations.
The IHOOT Golf Classic is the 3rd stop on the 6-State 2014 IHOOT Charity Golf Tour. Both support the
Vacations for Vets Program. “One of the most difficult processes for our Nation’s Heroes returning from
war is reconnecting with their families. Golf has become a major therapeutic solution for some of the
issues these brave men and women face daily,” said IHOOT CEO and Vietnam-era Marine Corps Captain,
Philip Strambler.
Wounded Warriors residing in the National Capital Region and Maryland will be the honorees in a
tournament from 8am to 2pm, Friday, August 17th at Glenn Dale Golf Club in Maryland’s Prince
George’s County. “Many troops have served multiple times in war zones,” said the IHOOT 2013
Wounded Warrior Ambassador, retired United States Marine Corps 1st Lieutenant Denis Oliverio, who is
still healing physically and emotionally from gunshot wounds that nearly took his life while serving as a
tank commander in Afghanistan.
There are slots available for golfers, sponsors, donors, advertisers, vendors and volunteers. Non-golfers
can host a Wounded Warrior’s round, a Soldier foursome, enter the $1,000 Helicopter Ball Drop
fundraiser or just attend the banquet and hear a moving presentation by the 2014 IHOOT Wounded
Warrior Ambassador, medically retired Staff Sergeant Charles Eggleston, U.S. Army Special Forces.
Sergeant Eggleston has survived more than 50 surgeries from wounds sustained in the Global War on
Terrorism.
