2016 VC Championships Coach Certification Policy
Volleyball Canada (VC) has adopted a coaching certification policy as part of its effort to provide a positive, safe
and rewarding volleyball environment for all athletes. VC encourages clubs to offer compensation for coach
education due to the time and dedication required. VC urges all coaches to go beyond the requirements listed below
and pursue ongoing professional development.
Coaching is the most significant contributor to athlete development and enjoyment of the game, and VC thanks
all coaches for their contribution.
Head Coaches

NCCP Certification Requirements
Development Coach “In Training” (items below must be completed):
 VC e-modules
 Multi Sport Modules: Make Ethical Decisions (MED), Plan a Practice,
Nutrition
 MED Online Evaluation
 Making Head Way online module (generic version)
Fine for noncompliance
$300
or Level 1 Certified (old system)
17U, 18U
Advanced Development Coach “In Training” (items below must be
completed):
 VC e-modules
 Multi Sport Modules: Make Ethical Decisions (MED), Plan a Practice,
Nutrition, Design a Basic Sport Program, Basic Mental Skills.
 MED Online Evaluation
 Making Head Way
$300
or Level 2 Certified (old system)

Please note the following sanctions for coaches who have not met the above mentioned standard by March 31,
2016:

Head coaches in their 1st appearance at a VC championship will have a one-year grace period to attain
certification requirements. No exemption cards required.

Head coaches in their second appearance at a VC Championship (attended one previous championship since
2013) must pay a fine of $300 payable online prior team check-in or they will not be eligible to participate in
the event.

Head coaches in their third appearance at a VC Championship (attended two previous Championships since
2013) must pay a fine of $300 payable online prior to team check-in. Additionally, coaches must complete
the “In Training” requirements or they will not be eligible to participate in the event.

Head coaches in their fourth appearance at a VC Championships (attended three previous Championships
since 2013) will not be eligible to perform a team staff or coaching role at any VC Championships.
For FUTURE VC Championships (beyond 2016)…


Standards will be increased or modified for Development and ADV Development Coaches.
The standards listed below for assistant coaches or staff seated on the bench will be required.
