This year the IES and CHES will be holding a joint AGM on 3rd April at
Middlesex University. Both the IES Council and CHES Executive Committee
personnel have changed considerably over the past couple of years so this
will be an opportunity for the members of both committees to meet each
other and to explore the topic of employability within the environmental
sciences.
In the morning (10:30am-1.30pm) we will run the IES Council meeting and
CHES Executive Committee meeting and their respective AGMs concurrently
in two separate rooms. After lunch the two groups will come together for a
workshop on the following theme:
Wakeham & Apprenticeships: Challenges for employability in
environmental science (2pm-5.30pm)



Session I: The Wakeham report: addressing the skill gap. Ali Orr
(Science Council)
Session II: Addressing the Employer’s needs and expectations.
(External speaker from industry presenting on employer’s
perspectives TBC).
Session III: Apprenticeship Degree – Paul Hooper (MMU)
As this is a packed day we will be extending the running time from
10:30am to 5.30pm. The AGM will take place at Middlesex University’s
Hendon Campus (The Burroughs, Hendon, London, NW4 4BT). The campus
is near a tube station and mainline station (www.mdx.ac.uk/get-intouch/directions-london).
Further details about the AGM will be sent out nearer the time, but please
save the date in your calendar and book your travel tickets early to keep
down costs. Hotel accommodation is
available (www.handpickedhotels.co.uk/hendonhall), but we regret that
the IES cannot cover this, so must be covered by your own organisations.
In order for us to manage numbers please indicate your interest in
attending to Chloe/Lisa ([email protected])? Numbers are limited.
