Purpose of Post
 Working across the international and domestic agendas, and in collaboration with policy
colleagues across the team, lead the development of robust and compelling policy analysis
and public policy asks on child trafficking and exploitation;
 Act as a policy expert representing Unicef UK at senior level meetings, managing and
influencing significant relationships with the policy community;
 Contribute to the delivery of the broader advocacy strategy on children on the move,
providing policy expertise to undertake high level influencing and campaigning
Responsibilities
Evidence base and public policy development
 Create a strong evidence base for Unicef UK’s advocacy work on child trafficking and
exploitation and children’s rights, undertaking research to help develop public policy
positions in close collaboration with the Head of Policy and Advocacy, the International
Programmes Engagement Team and Unicef New York;
 Lead the development of compelling and relevant policy asks to influence the UK
Government at the most senior levels;
 Write and edit a range of external policy publications and briefings in addition to drafting
and providing senior staff with clear briefings to undertake high level influencing;
 Commission and manage external research and analysis of the highest quality;
 Provide public policy advice and support to other teams within Unicef UK, other National
Committees and global Unicef as appropriate, including senior management
 Provide analysis and technical inputs to Unicef international reports, briefings and positions
as required, and maximise advocacy potential of these for Unicef UK by providing
compelling policy analysis on the relevance of the findings for the UK Government

Keep abreast of policy and political developments and trends to ensure Unicef UK’s policy
and advocacy work is responsive and relevant, including to critical emerging issues, and
represent the organisation as an expert in the field at a senior level
Relationship management and advocacy
 Represent Unicef UK at external events on relevant issues, to network and promote Unicef
UK’s positions, where appropriate
 Maximise support for Unicef UK’s advocacy demands among senior members of the policy
community, civil servants and other opinion formers with strong influencing reach
 Work with the government relations team to respond to government consultations and
parliamentary inquiries, and support other influencing activities as required
 Organise Unicef UK’s involvement in policy/research events focused on relevant issues
relating to trafficking, exploitation and children’s rights
 Represent Unicef UK in, and contribute to, advocacy coalitions on relevant issues, as
appropriate, building networks of allies to help achieve our policy and advocacy objectives.
 Liaise with Unicef’s offices in New York and Geneva, Innocenti Research Centre, Regional
and Country Offices and National Committees to ensure robust policy evidence and to
further Unicef UK’s advocacy goals
 Work with the campaigns and government relations teams to support dynamic and fastmoving campaigns on relevant issues and to enable Unicef UK to drive and respond to the
news agenda
 Support others to act as a spokesperson in relation to your issues and provide policy advice
and support on trafficking and exploitation to other teams in Unicef UK.
 Further build Unicef UK’s profile on children on the move by writing blogs and other
materials; and support the delivery of content that can be used across our channels to gain
traction with our target audiences
Internal collaboration
 Play an active role in the Public Affairs Team, including contributing to the development of
the work plan and advocacy priorities including the advocacy action groups
 Work closely with the other Senior Policy and Advocacy Advisers on children on the move
issues, and collaborate with other Unicef UK teams as appropriate
 Contribute to regular team reporting to Directors
 Oversee the work of consultants and others as required
