Principles
At Casterton College Rutland, all members of staff and Governors accept responsibility for
‘socially disadvantaged’ pupils and are committed to meeting their pastoral, social and
academic needs within a caring environment.
As with every child in our care, a child who is considered to be ‘socially disadvantaged’ is valued,
respected and entitled to develop to his/her full potential, irrespective of their disadvantage.
1
Pupil Premium Statement
We are wholly and unequivocally committed to eradicating the gap in performance between
disadvantaged students (who have been in receipt of free school meals at any time over the last
6 years) and all other students nationally.
Our belief is that a child’s ability is not fixed so we expect disadvantaged children to exceed the
progress expected of them by national benchmarks
If they do not exceed expected progress we will intervene to ensure they do so
We ensure that funds received for this purpose are used solely for doing so and the spending of
them is tracked and monitored for its impact on a regular basis
We have engaged a team of staff with specifically responsibility for co-ordinating our work on
raising the achievement of pupil premium students and they report to the governing body and
are held accountable for the impact of their work
This year we have received £127,800 for the purpose of raising the achievement of
disadvantaged students and this has been spent on a range of strategies which are recorded on
the accompanying pupil premium financial report.
