1. THE EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Training program on the discipline "Ukrainian language" is developed on
the base of “Methodical instructions on development, forming of course educational
and training program of disciplines” adopted on 16.06.2015 №37/order.
The academic discipline "Ukrainian language" is one of the fundamental for
the formation of students' professional competency, as it is one of the main tools of
the modern professional specialist. A qualified expert in any branch of science should
have a high level of culture, know how to communicate with people, speak precisely,
clearly and logically, understand professional terminology which is possible only if a
professional specialist studies the native language perfectly, relates to everyday
language practice consciously. Knowledge and skills on the discipline "Ukrainian
language" is the basis for the efficient perception of information from other subject
areas, the development of abstract thinking, realization of the creative potential of the
future specialists.
The purpose of teaching the discipline is to develop students' communicative
competence, produce skills of verbal behavior in the professional field, master the
basics of official-business, scientific and conversational styles of the Ukrainian
language and provide professional communication at the appropriate language level.
The purpose of the discipline is determined by the necessity to prepare a specialist,
who is a harmoniously developed personality, who can effectively solve professional
problems due to linguistic and communication skills.
The objectives of the study the academic discipline are:
- To form clear understanding of the role of the state language in the professional
activity;
- To make possible to study the norms of the modern Ukrainian literary language and
comply with the requirements of culture of oral and written language;

- To develop the skills of self-control over observance with the rules of language in
communication;
- To develop creative thinking of students;
- To promote respect for the Ukrainian language and linguistic traditions;
- To form skills of using professional terminology, editing, correcting and translating
the scientific texts.
After studying the academic discipline "Ukrainian language" the student must:
Know:
- Basic information about the Ukrainian literary language, its origin, place among
other languages in the world, norms and styles;
- The peculiarities of the term as a professional language unit, the types of the terms,
the process of standardization of the terms, specific terminology of the chosen
profession;
- Types of dictionaries, Ukrainian terminological dictionaries;
- Orthoepic, orthographical, lexical, morphological, syntactic and stylistic norms of
the Ukrainian literary language;
- The main genre types of the scientific texts; article submission guidelines;
- Basic information about the culture of business communication;
- The specific of public speech, public speech types, the peculiarities of preparing for
them;
- The characteristics of the document, document classification, the requirements for
the content and location details, the text document requirements;
- Basic information about administrative and clerical documentation.

- To make different types of documents, selecting language means which represent
their specificity properly;
- To execute the written works of scientific style: courseworks, thesis, scientific
articles, abstracts;
- To translate the professional texts from Russian into Ukrainian;
- To design and edit texts of different styles in accordance with the Ukrainian
language.
The training material of the academic discipline is structured in a modular manner
and consists of one training module, including:
the training module №1 «Structural and communication aspects of the Ukrainian
language", which is logically complete, relatively independent, integral part of the
curriculum, learning which provides for the module test and the analysis of its
implementation.
The discipline program "Ukrainian language" is based on the principles of
comprehensive training of a highly educated specialist. The course is linked to other
humanitarian subjects that students will study in the following semester: "History and
Culture of Ukraine", "Philosophy".
2. THE SUBJECT CONTENT
2.1. Module №1 "Structural and communication aspects of the Ukrainian
language"
Topic 2.1.1. The Ukrainian language as a social phenomenon
The subject, purpose and objectives of the course "Ukrainian language". The
language as a social phenomenon. The language and speech. The main functions of
the language. The place of the Ukrainian language among the other languages in the
world. The history and the development of the Ukrainian language. The concept of
the national and the literary language. The main features of the language. Language
standards. The language of Professional Communication as a kind of the Ukrainian

literary language. The concept of the state language. Language legislation and
language policy in Ukraine.
Topic 2.1.2. Oral Professional Communication Culture. Forms of Professional
Problems Group Discussion
The peculiarities of oral communication. The ways to influence people during direct
contact. Individual and collective forms of professional communication. Functions
and types of the conversations. Strategy behavior during the business conversation.
Interview with the employer. Etiquette call. Art negotiations. Meeting as a form of
collective decision. The conference.The discussion. "Brainstorm" as a heuristic form
that activates the creative potential of the interlocutors in the collective discussion of
the problem. The business card.
Topic 2.1.3. The fundamentals of Ukrainian Language Culture
Culture of language and culture of speech. Communication features of speech. The
communicative professiogram of a specialist. The dictionaries in professional speech,
their role in enhancing speech culture. Language and speech etiquette. The standard
etiquette situation. The paradigms of the language formulas.
Topic 2.1.4. The problems of Scientific Translation. The basic Principles of
Professional Texts Stylistic Edit.
The forms and the types of translation. Literally, adequate, abstract, abstracts ny
translations. Common mistakes in translation the scientific texts in Ukrainian. The
choice of the synonyms in translation. Translation of the terms. Transfer modalities
of Russian participles -usch suffixes - (- yusch-) -sh-, -vsh-, -m- in the Ukrainian
language. Differences within the meaning of the prepositions in Ukrainian and
Russian. The peculiarities of editing the text. The most common syntax errors in the
scientific texts and the ways to avoid them. The errors in the content and the
construction of the expression. The main proofreading marks for correction of the
text originals.

communication
The concept of the language style. The stylistic differentiation of the modern
Ukrainian language. Functional, expressive and individual styles. The main features
of the functional styles in Ukrainian. General characteristics of the functional styles
of the modern Ukrainian literary language: functions, genres, characteristics,
language tools, variety. From the history of the Ukrainian language styles.

of elaboration of the scientific text.
