Invite you to a workshop:
Social Impact Measurement
By Adrian Henriques
20th May 2014 0900-15.30
Sentralen, Øvre Slottsgaten 3, Oslo
Participation is free and lunch is included
Organisations of every sort are re-evaluating how they can communicate not only
financial results but also their positive impact on people and the planet. They realise
that understanding social value is important in planning how a business should be
run and in communicating its purpose and potential to customers and stakeholders.
New kinds of initiatives, such as social entrepreneurs and cross-sectoral
partnerships, depend on being able to demonstrate their ability to deliver social
impact if they are to be treated as serious players in the future of solving society’s
challenges. At the same time existing sectors and businesses must gain a deeper
understanding of their social worth if they are to adapt for the changes the future will
inevitably bring.
This workshop will bring social entrepreneurs together with participants from the
public, private, voluntary and foundation sectors to explore social impact
measurement. Sessions will include measuring the social impact of real projects
being run in Norway by social entrepreneurs and socially engaged organisations (the
relevant projects will be invited by the organisers).
This workshop will be of benefit to:
 Public sector employees working on demonstrating the value of existing
and new projects/programmes.
 Private companies reconsidering their CSR and social investment
engagement.
 Start-up social entrepreneurs wanting to demonstrate the social value of
their projects to stakeholders
 Grant-providers, sponsors, donors, financers (including foundations,
private and public sectors) who are considering new partnerships and
methods of supporting social innovation.
 Voluntary organisations and NGOs looking to demonstrate their value and
consider the possibility for new methods in delivering social value.
Topics will include:
 Social impact in relation to sustainability and social responsibility
 The role of a 'theory of change'
 Working with stakeholders
 Analysing a project for activities, outcomes and impacts
 Issues in measurement
This workshop is a Co-Co Time event: a series of discussions organised by British Council Norway and
SoCentral to share thoughts on collaboration, co-production, communities and social enterprise as a
way to build stronger, fairer, more inclusive societies.
Adrian Henriques is one of the foremost experts in the UK in the field of social
impact reporting and measurement. He has worked with mainstream businesses to
help them understand the social value of their operations, was Head of Accountability
at New Economics Foundation and is a visiting Professor at Middlesex Business
School. He is the author of ‘Corporate Impact: measuring and managing your social
footprint’.
British Council is the UK’s cultural relations organisation. It works to build trust and
understanding through education, the arts and society. In Norway our work includes
projects concerning social enterprise/entrepreneurship and its role in enhancing
inclusion and diversity, in partnership with, for example, Husbanken, Oslo Kommune
and SoCentral.
SoCentral works to find new solutions to societal challenges. It does so through
hands on projects and developing an incubator and co-working space for social
entrepreneurs from all sectors.
