Have you heard?! Our first customer stopped by last Tuesday! She was directed to our pantry by Family
Promise. Don Halstead had the honor of assisting her fill her bag. Emmanuel Table's, a community food
pantry has OPENED. We'd like to have items available to all who stop by, from individuals who might
need only a single serving to families who could stock up on several basic items. Parishioners are invited
to donate personal hygiene items (but not infant care items) and food items (simple proteins and/or
complex carbohydrates but not junk food or, because of storage limitations, prepared foods). Volunteers
are welcome to staff the pantry on Tuesdays.
Donation suggestions:
Dry and canned goods such as rice, beans, pasta, cereal, canned/powdered milk, canned
meats, fruit, vegetables, potato buds etc.
Vacuum packed freezer items (we have a small chest freezer) such as whole or quartered
chickens, roasts, ground beef, hot dogs, blocks of butter, cheese, etc.
Single serving items in pop top or pouch containers such as meats, crackers,
peanut butter, etc.
Personal hygiene items such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, shampoo, hand
lotion, deodorant, etc
The Pantry will be open on Tuesdays from 9 to 12, it will be staffed by volunteers. Please contact Alice

Cottrell will sing "Were You There" as the Offertory; the service will conclude
with the chant "Abba Father" sung in darkness. Good Friday: (4/14) 7:00 PM

by "Kyrie Eleison" sung by congregation.

Our own Dr. John Cottrell was recently honored when the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital medical staff dedicated the
new Critical Care unit in his honor in appreciation for his having been the first medical director of the first ICU the
hospital ever had when he first came in 1976. At that time, they needed a boardcertified specialist in internal medicine
to be the director, so they were thrilled when he wanted to come to Woodstock. He was involved in selecting equipment
and training the personnel how to use it, and he served every year as either medical director or medical advisor until he
retired in 2002. On Monday, April 3, 2017, he was presented with a plaque of recognition and appreciation that will hang
on the wall in the new unit.
It was a complete surprise to him, and he was visibly moved to be remembered in this way after 15 years of retirement!
His wife, Elizabeth, was pulled in on the surprise about 10 days ahead of time she told him he had been invited to the
opening of the unit (so he'd be sure to be wearing photo appropriate attire), but he had no idea until he got there that it
was to be dedicated to him. They were both especially touched by how many physicians, nurses and other staff members
who had worked with him came for the event, many in retirement themselves or working elsewhere.
Men's Group Breakfast
The Men's Breakfast Group will be meeting on
April 24, at Carmelized @ 9:00.

July 21: Arlo Guthrie
July 22: Piedmont Symphony Orchestra — “Sgt. Pepper and the Summer of Love”
Best known for his colorful storytelling and timeless folk hits of the 1960s and 70s, Arlo Guthrie kicks
off SVMF’s Wayback Weekend Celebration. Then the celebration continues the following evening
with the Piedmont Symphony Orchestra as they rock out with songs commemorating The Summer of
Love’s 50th anniversary — when tens of thousands of hippies flocked to HaightAsbury in the summer
of 1967 to promote peace, love and the counterculture. The orchestra will also perform songs from the
Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and “Magical Mystery Tour,” two of the Beatles’
most famous albums released that year.
July 29: Piedmont Symphony Orchestra — “PSO in Tinseltown,” a performance of America’s bestloved
movie themes.
Aug. 11: The HillBenders and The Seldom Scene – a double header! The HillBenders will open the
concert with their original bluegrass twist on The Who’s famous rock opera “Tommy.” This
“Bluegrass Opry” will cover the original album from start to finish with audience participation.
The Seldom Scene, a SVMF favorite, is known for its soaring, incredibly tight, vocal gymnastics and
stretching the bounds of traditional bluegrass, embracing artists such as Bob Dylan and the Grateful
Dead.
Aug 12: The Midtown Men — These four stars from the original cast of “Jersey Boys” will bring their
magic to SVMF, singing their favorite hits of from the ’60s –The Beatles, The Rascals, The Turtles,
Motown, The Four Seasons and more!
Sept. 2: Emmylou Harris — SVMF is excited to present Emmylou Harris, a 13time GRAMMY Award
winner and one of the most respected, singersongwriters in the genres of country, folk and Americana.
Proceeds from the Meet the Artist packages go toward Bonaparte’s Retreat, a dog rescue and adoption
nonprofit founded by Emmylou Harris.
Sept. 3: Bluegrass Minifest: Headlining will be Balsam Range, a 10time International Bluegrass
Music Awards winner. The group is known for its strong vocals, tight harmonies and expert
musicianship.
Also performing will be Band of Ruhks — former members of the Lonesome River Band — and a
young, upandcoming female Trio from Virginia, After Jack.
