Words from the Headteacher During the last round of governors

Words from the Headteacher
.
During the last round of governors’ committees we reviewed a number of
school policies including our behaviour policy. This policy is reviewed annually
as behaviour is such an important part of the success of a school. At Bristol Free
School we have high expectations of our students, from their academic
performance to the way they conduct themselves in, around and outside of
School. These expectations are captured succinctly in the first part of the
behaviour policy and I have reproduced them below for you to read.
BFS expects
a. Behaviour that supports learning and engenders a nurturing environment
where people feel safe, secure and supported
b. Excellent behaviour from students both in and out of the classroom
c. Students to make outstanding progress – due to hard work, effort and
focussed learning
d. Students to exhibit thoughtful and considerate behaviour towards others,
which features high levels of respect, politeness, kindness and helpfulness
e. Participation in all aspects of school life
f. Students to develop resilience in all aspects of school life, to take
responsibility (for themselves, their behaviour and their learning) and
always try hard to improve
g. Students to practise behaviour strategies aimed at improving their
behaviour
h. Parents to reinforce positively BFS’s expectations about student behaviour
i. Parents to be involved in and supportive of, the school’s behaviour policy
and procedures
This will be the last newsletter before half term. The term finishes at 3:00pm on
Wednesday 24 October and School resumes for its next term on Monday 5
November at the usual time.
Next Wednesday there will be no after school clubs. Students will be emptying their
lockers that day as we are adding more lockers to the tutor rooms and redistributing
our existing number. All students will be bringing their first reports of the year home
ready for the academic monitoring afternoon on Wednesday 7 November.

Performing Arts Trip
On Thursday 11 October selected
students enjoyed an evening of dance at
Cotham School. The performance of
“Subtext” by the Bristol based dance
company, Neshima, and Swerve dance
company from Swindon, explored the
themes of languages and
communication, using unique and
explosive dance fused with witty and
vibrant theatre. The performance
investigated the nuances and rhythms
of language, physicalised the subtlety of
routine communication and guided the
audience through a journey of words.
The students enjoyed a new style of
dance and are inspired and excited
about their next dance performance
work at Bristol Free School.
