EMV Debit Cards Starting this spring, The Peoples Bank will be doing a mass reissue of all of our debit cards. This new debit card has an embedded EMV microchip for enhanced card security. For your convenience, we wanted to fill you in on some very important information you will need to know for when you receive your new debit card. What you should be prepared for in the switch to EMV chip card Appearance of card: Your new card will be the same color, but a little different design than your old card. It will also have a microchip embedded to the left side of the card. Use of card: This will be the biggest change in our switch to EMV cards. The cards will need to be inserted into the bottom of the terminal and stay there for the entire transaction. Swiping card: You may still have to swipe your card at some merchants that have not made the transition to EMV, therefore you would use your card as you always have. If you swipe your card and they use EMV, it will prompt you to insert your card. What to do once you receive your new EMV chip card Changes to your debit card: Your new EMV card will have the same card number as your existing debit card, but it will have a new expiration date and security number on the back. Activate your card: Even though the card number is the same, you will still have to activate your new debit card. You can call the number on your card sticker at 1-866590-4793, call The Peoples Bank at 812-358-4000, or use it at an ATM to activate your new card. Once your new card is activated, it will automatically deactivate your old debit card. Shred your old debit card. PIN numbers: The PIN numbers will remain the same on your new card. Update automated payments: Once you receive your new card and have activated it, make sure you update all your automatic payments you have associated with your old card. Since it has a new expiration date and security number, updating your information will be key to make sure your automatic payments will go through. Contact The Peoples Bank if you have any questions: We are here for you to answer any additional questions you may have concerning your new EMV chip card. Call a customer service representative at 812-358-4000, we are happy to help you with any additional information regarding your new debit card!
