‘let it go’ Long before the Disney film Frozen and the popular song 'Let it go', the refrain of the life of Jesus seems to be, 'let it go'. As the word became flesh, Jesus emptied himself, 'letting go', instead of clinging to equality with God. In Holy Week this letting go becomes more apparent. In the Upper Room during the last supper he 'let go' of his role as teacher and washes the disciples feet becoming a servant rather than the master. In Gethsemane, he 'let go' of his own will to do the will of the Father. And finally on the cross he 'let go' of revenge and cries out to the father to 'forgive them (literally 'let it go') for they are unaware of what they do.' Jesus let it go. But we only understand this stance of 'letting go' in the light of the event that followed. Easter Sunday gives meaning to the life and death of Jesus. Easter Sunday is the vindication for His way of living, this path of letting go. In the Christian tradition we do not let go to oblivion we let go to God. To new life. That is the message of Easter. We let go to the God who is present within. So Easter gives meaning to our Centering prayer practice and to our life journey of letting go, just like Jesus. Easter is the promise that when we let go of the seeds of our thoughts and the false self programmes we let go to the fruit of new life. We surrender to the ground of our being. We let go to the God who is able to raise the dead. That is the Christian hope of Easter. We do not let go to nothing we let go to the resurrecting God who is present within. Wishing you all a Very Happy Easter Alan, Eileen, John, Kathleen, Niamh and Tom The Core Team of Contemplative Outreach Ireland
