A game with very few goal scoring opportunities for either team. Trefelin worked wonders to
get the game on with all the poor weather we have experienced lately and even though the
referee was happy to start the game he did advise he may have needed to make a call on
abandoning the game if the pitch deteriorated to dangerous levels for player safety.
Whilst the pitch did cut up naturally it held up very well throughout the game, however it did
lead to the first goal of the game for Trefelin when after only 5 minutes the ball dropped in the
area after a cross and stuck in the mud leaving Lewys Smith in the Treforest goal unable to
collect and Ceri Williams tapped in to put Trefelin 1 0 in front.
In the 12th minute Treforest got a free kick on the right hand side of the goal 20 yards out and
the ever dangerous free kick taker Rikki Webb smashed the ball towards the top corner but an
excellent save by the Trefelin keeper tipping the ball away for a corner kept Trefelin in front.
The game ebbed and flowed for the rest of the first half with Trefelin having the better of the
possession but a lot of their attacks broke down through good defending and from the ref
giving offside. The Trefelin keeper was also called into action pulling a great save off from a
Callum Holden shot and Stacy Fulker also had a good chance to equalise pulling the ball just
wide of the right hand post.
The second half started the same way as the first with Treflin getting an early goal when the
ballw a splayed over Lewys Smith and Ceri Williams getting his second in what looked like
an offside position however Trefelin got a 3rd that was disallowed for offside but did look like
it was onside. Trefelin had the better of the 2nd half but Lewys Smith only had one good save
to make however Treforest did not trouble the Trefelin GK at all in the 2nd half.
Congratulations to Trefelin and good luck in their quest to win the league and promotion. I
would also say we thought the match referee A Heathfield had an excellent game overall
