FRANKLIN COUNTY AUDITOR CLARENCE E. MINGO II FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Dave O’Neil 614-525-7315 Board of Revision period opens one month earlier than usual With cases from previous years completed, start date pushed up COLUMBUS, Ohio (Nov. 21, 2016) – Franklin County Auditor Clarence Mingo earlier today announced that property owners who believe their property value is too low or too high can file complaints with the Board of Revision until Friday, March 31, 2017. The Franklin County Board of Revision hears formal complaints on property valuations. Filing a complaint allows people to present their case before the Board of Revision, which is comprised of representatives from the offices of the county auditor, treasurer and county commissioner. This marks the first time residents have been able to file Board of Revision complaints in November. The Board of Revision filing period usually starts during the last week of December but because of the removal of a backlog from previous years, the start date was moved up. “Our staff has done an absolutely tremendous job in efficiently scheduling and hearing these cases,” Mingo said. “There is no backlog of cases so when people file a Board of Revision complaint, they are going to get that hearing and decision during 2017.” Applications can be found at www.franklincountyauditor.com. Franklin County home or business owners can submit applications in person, through the mail or via fax at 614-525-6252. Property owners also can scan their signed and notarized application and email the finished copy to [email protected]. Residents have until Friday, March 31 at 5 p.m. to return their Board of Revision application in person. Applications can be emailed or faxed until 11:59 p.m. on March 31. Mailed applications must have a postmark no later than March 31. The burden of proof is on the property owner to show the value is incorrect. Local school boards have the right to file counter complaints on respective cases. If a property owner is successful in reducing their property value, a refund of any overpayment of taxes will be refunded or credited to their upcoming tax bill.
