How far can you go? Take part in our staff team challenge between Monday 15 July & Sunday 25 August Register now by visiting www.surveymonkey.com/s/NUHTripleRegistration What is the Summer Fun Triple Challenge? In this team Challenge you and your team of up to 4 people, can choose to Cycle, Walk or Run, or a combination of all 3 activities. The Challenge begins on Monday 15 July and ends on Sunday 25 August which gives you 6 weeks to get as many steps and kilometres as you can! It's up to you and your team how many of the activities you'd like to take part in. Your team can pick just one activity, try a few, or pick all three to take part in the Triathlon category, and not every team member has to take part in every activity you pick. We only ask that teams are up to a maximum of 4 people and that you appoint one person as team captain to keep a record of your ongoing results during the Challenge. We'll be giving out Gold, Silver and Bronze certificates and prizes at the end of the Challenge for the most successful teams in the following four categories: *Cycling *Walking *Running *Triathlon (all three activities) How do I take enter? Get a team of up to four people in total who are interested in taking part. Complete the online registration form by visiting www.surveymonkey.com/s/NUHTripleRegistration and follow the instructions on screen to complete this. Only one person from the team needs to register. Can I enter as an individual? Unfortunately not – this is a team challenge. You don’t have to have four people in the team but it does need to be more than one. Can I still take part if I’m not very active at the moment? We encourage everyone to take part whatever their current fitness levels. Make sure to build your activity gradually and try setting realistic targets throughout the challenge such as a 10% increase each week. If you are very new to activity or have any underlying health issues, make sure to get some specific guidance from your GP first. Can the challenge be adapted for people with disabilities? Yes, we encourage everyone to take part, please contact us at [email protected] or call extension 64771 and we will do our best to adapt the challenge for your specific needs. Do we have to enter every category? No, you can pick just one activity, try a few, or pick all three to take part in the Triathlon category. Not every team member has to take part in every activity you pick either – you can have one person doing each activity if you prefer. Obviously the more of you doing each activity means a higher overall score. How/what do we count? Cycling and running will be counted in kilometres. Walking will be counted in number of steps. Every bit of activity you do in each category counts as long as it happens within the 6 weeks of the Challenge. You can include use of fitness classes, treadmills, stationary and push bikes. Just make sure not to double count one activity in two categories i.e. if you are entered in both the running and walking category, you must either remove your pedometer when you are running, or disregard steps accumulated whilst running. The team captain will be given a recording sheet and we will send you an online form to complete each week during the Challenge to register your scores. For more information on counting we also have a Summer Fun Triple Challenge counting guidelines leaflet. How do we record and enter our steps and kilometres? The team captain will be given record sheets to give to each member of the team to record their scores each day. At the end of the week, each member of the team will give their total number of scores for each activity for the week to the team captain. The team captain will add these up and submit the total number of steps / kilometres for the whole team online each week at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NUHTripleResults Note to captains: If it is not possible to submit your team’s results on a weekly basis please submit them when you can, but make sure you keep a record of the total steps for your team for each separate week (i.e. do not add weeks together). Please ensure that only the team captain (or nominated team member if the captain is on leave) submits scores online. How will we know how we’re doing compared to everyone else? We will endeavour to send out a leader board at the half way point of the challenge, but we can only do this if we get some scores in so remember to send them in regularly. However, don’t be put off if other teams are doing more than you. The point of the challenge is to get you moving more – we all have different levels of activity so think about your own personal achievements not how it compares to others. The main aim is to enjoy it so focus on that and trying to make small improvements to your level of activity each week. What if we can’t do the whole 6 weeks? It’s fine to do as many of the weeks as you can even if it’s not all 6. The only thing this will affect is your overall results. What is the role of the team captain? The team captain is responsible for being the main contact point for the Health & Wellbeing team during the Challenge. It will also be their role to collect the scores in from the rest of the team and submit them to us during the Challenge. We’ve registered but can no longer take part Please note that registering does not commit you to taking part, so if you change your mind or can no longer take part that is not a problem. Please let us know so that we can remove your address from the mail outs. If one of your team members drops out during the Challenge the rest of the team can still continue with the rest of the Challenge, or alternatively you can substitute a team member if required. Please contact us at [email protected] with any change of team circumstances so that we can keep our records up to date. How will the winners be picked? There will be Gold, Silver and Bronze certificates and prizes in each of the 3 individual categories. There will also be a Gold, Silver and Bronze certificate for the Triathlon category. Please note that to be eligible for the Triathlon category you MUST enter a score for each activity. I don’t have a pedometer or cycle computer We will be able to supply pedometers and cycle computers at a subsidised cost to participants who need them. You will be asked to indicate whether you need to buy any equipment when you register and we will make arrangements for you to collect these prior to the Challenge starting. We only have limited supplies so if you have one of your own please use this. Do we have to use the health and wellbeing pedometers? If you have your own pedometer you are very welcome to use this and it means we can allow extra teams to take part in the challenge. We only have a limited supply of pedometers for this challenge for staff without pedometers to purchase on a first come first served basis. Please don’t request a pedometer if you have an alternative. What happens if my Health and Wellbeing pedometer doesn’t work? Hopefully this won’t happen as we’ve bought good quality pedometers for you to use and they are brand new! They can be quite sensitive and it can take a little bit of experimenting to get it in the optimum place for you. Have a go with it prior to the challenge starting. Remember, they don’t start counting until you get to 6 steps so if you are stopping and starting over short distances you won’t get a high count. If you are experiencing problems try these tips: Change the battery in the first instance if it appears to not be working Try it on thinner material and as close to your body as possible Position it close to your hip bone Experiment with where you wear it - sometimes putting it on your shoe can help or at the back of your waistband. If after trying all of this the pedometer really doesn’t seem to be working, give us a ring on extension 64771 and we will provide a refund. If we are able to we will provide an alternative although we can’t guarantee this. What happens if I lose my pedometer? If you lose the pedometer, please contact us and we may be able to supply you a replacement at a charge of £3. Please use the safety clip supplied with pedometer to reduce the risk of losing it or dropping it down the toilet!
