The Consultant Position
A successful candidate will be an innovative and entrepreneurial individual who
demonstrates great creativity, energy, and a desire to both coach and be coached.
S/he will work collaboratively as a key member of Ostara project teams, and will work
independently in response to client needs. S/he will provide support in all areas of
fundraising and development.
The Consultant will:

Prepare essential materials in support of the client’s fundraising efforts,
including development plans, activity calendars, annual giving materials, event
collateral, campaign materials, acknowledgement letters, and follow-up
correspondence.
Assist in keeping projects on established timelines, including communicating
contract progress, schedules and client needs with project leads and helping
clients stay on schedule.
Support and engage client staff and volunteers in fundraising activities,
including events, campaigns, appeals, major gifts, and grants.
Participate actively and regularly in The Ostara Group’s internal meetings,
events, workgroups and task forces.
Support clients with interim or part time day-to-day activities, depending on
their needs. This may include working on-site at client’s offices.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have at least five years’ prior work experience in direct
fundraising and setting development strategy for a small or medium size nonprofit
organization. The successful candidate will be an innovative and proactive fundraising
professional, or consultant, who is interested in using his/her skills and competencies to
benefit a wide range of organizations, while continuing to grow professionally and
actively learning from senior team members. Successful candidates must thrive in a
team environment while maintaining independence and taking initiative in their own
work.
In addition, s/he will possess the following:

Minimum of five years of fundraising experience as a development manager that
includes specific expertise in development planning, individual giving, and/or
campaign management.
Experience working with two or more nonprofit organizations and an
understanding of the philanthropic climate.
The ability to earn the confidence of a wide range of internal and external
constituents, including senior consulting staff, client staff, volunteers, donors and
prospects.
Critical thinking skills, i.e., the ability to apply reasoning and logic to new or
unfamiliar ideas, opinions, and situations.
Excellent writing and communication skills, grant writing experience a bonus.
High degree of comfort and facility with technology, including donor
relationship management database knowledge and experience.
