 A photographer has been booked to take team photos on Saturday 4th August just
before your home/away games that morning.
o
What: Team photos. The photographer will take photos in the following order:
U6Red, U7, U8, U12, U6Green and U10.
o
When: 4th August @7.45am.
o
Where: Fanny Blankers-koen Park, opposite Ian Wing Parade, Newington
o
All players will need to be at the photoshoot location at 7.45am and will have
worn the club jersey, shorts, socks and soccer boots. Players can order a photo
with order forms and payment needs to be made to your team manager. Order
forms will be distributed to managers by Saturday.

Team photo only (A4 size with names and club logo – fully
laminated) - $10

Team photo, two full-body and two close-up individual photos - $15
 Our main fundraising event will take place this Wednesday 25th July 2007. There will be
a small canteen with food and drinks.

The young Gunners were pretty competitive in the first half with a good defensive effort. There
were some good stops by Lachlan early on and Noah showed courage with a few diving saves.
With our goals under attack most of the half Rushan eased the pressure with some big
clearances which allowed Declan, Jason and Mitchell to make a bit of progress up field.
We seemed to tire a bit in the second half, but Oscar found the energy to take the ball close to
the St Bernadette goals before being stopped. Rushan in goals earned the man of the match
award (and the nickname “super boot”) with his HUGE goal kicks.
The boys enjoyed playing after missing so many games with the wet weather and are obviously
enjoying playing together. I only wish I had my video rolling at the half time break when coach
Phil and the team were having a chat amongst themselves. Great team bonding and absolutely
priceless.

Perhaps it was the cold, the lag from holidays or some other factor, but this week, it looked as
though we might just have enough to field a full team, until the late arrival of Vincent, allowed
us 1 reserve (we actually have 10 players registered).
Newington Gunners won the toss, but within 1 minute Rouse Hill had capiltalised on field position
and scored. Tony's skills, which had been missing for the last 3 weeks whilst he was away, were
most welcome, as he helped set up a goal for Vincent in the 7th minute. 4 minutes later, Vincent,
in his usual never-say-die attitude, took the opportunity of a fumble by the opposing goal
keeper, to put another through the posts, for Newington to lead 2-1. 1 minute later Tony again
showed great skills to dribble the ball from half way, using both feet to evade the opposition
players and again set up a goal for Vincent. With 3 minutes to go till half time, Rouse Hill
pressured our defense and came away with another goal, to end the 1st half with a 3-2 scoreline.
The 2nd half was a more disjointed game with the ball going up and down the field and
frequently over the sideline and goal lines for numerous thrown ins, goal kicks and corners. We
need to give some emphasis to avoiding bringing the ball across the goal mouth in defense as 2
such plays had disastrous effect by allowing Rouse Hill to convert their good field position into
goals, in rather rapid succession. There was glimpses of good defense and attack, we just need
to make it a little more consistent, when the games start to count next year.

It was great to be playing at Home again after what had seemed like an endless series of
washouts, changed venues and traveling half-way across Sydney. Despite some worries about
more rain overnight, it turned out to be a beautiful day for soccer and the field at Wilson Park was
in good condition. After looking a bit rusty last week, the team had experienced a solid
preparation this week and it showed: they played one of their best games of the season. The
Gunners dominated the first half, playing some great football that even earned praise from the
opposition coach. While the Eagles were perhaps unfortunate to give up a couple of penalties
(due to players who couldn't resist the temptation to handle the ball inside the box), Nuno and
Greg Melnyk showed great poise to calmly slot the penalties home and the goal from Lewis was
an absolute cracker. The half-time score of 3-0 was a good reflection of our dominance. In the
second half we mixed the team up a bit but still played some outstanding football, Cameron was
very unlucky not to score from a header on the end of an excellent cross and there were other
great chances to Nuno, Liam and Greg which just didn't fall our way. At the other end, Lewis was
having his first go at Goalie and did a great job, just unable to keep out a good goal from the
Eagles but otherwise playing solidly. Michael and Liam were solid in both defense and attack and
Jason was a rock as leader of the defense in the second half. Great play from everyone on the
team, probably our best all-round game this year. Player of the week was Nuno. Final score, won
3-1.

It was a depleted U12s that took the field this week against a top 4 side. With 3 players away we
were down to 10 available players. It could have been worse – at least Liam was not suspended
after being harshly sent off last week, and Ahmed had recovered from last week’s injury.
Fortunately, Nuno backed up from his player of the match performance for the U10s to help us
out, giving us the full 11 - and played very strongly, thanks Nuno. Wenty had their full 11 plus
4 reserves and a number of supporters.
The Gunners started well in what proved to be a tough and entertaining match. Ben Spencer was
brought down in the box and was unlucky not to convert the penalty – just squeezed wide. Soon
after, Alessia was denied a scoring chance when she was tripped from behind. Jonno gave
Alessia the chance to finish from the penalty spot, a nice bit of captaincy, and she duly did with
a great strike.
We went to half time 1-0 up and it was nearly 2 when Anthony launched a beautiful curling,
dipping high shot that left one of the tallest keepers in the comp with no chance, only to hit the
cross bar and bounce out! Bad luck Anth, very nearly a super goal.
Wenty rotated their fresh players and despite stubborn resistance from the Gunners, the
equaliser eventually came in the last 10 minutes. The final few minutes saw the Gunners hard on
attack, with several corners, but we just couldn’t find the winning goal.
In the circumstances, the draw was a good result but even so I thought we were a little unlucky
not to win. A good gutsy effort from everyone. Johan followed up last week’s outstanding
performance with another strong display in goal. Ben Adams had another top game and in a
popular decision was awarded the coach’s MVP award.
It seems that everyone is enjoying their football, including the spectators!
A special thank you to Imraan who volunteered again when there was no official referee - and
refereed the match very well.

Important notices
1. If for any reason your child is unable to play or attend training you MUST inform your coach or manager.
2. If you have questions regarding your team, ask your manager. If you have any questions regarding
administrations, ask the club’s secretary.
3. If it is raining on a Saturday morning call the team manager to see if the game is on. Most often games will
still be on so do not just stay at home; you will be letting your child's team down!

It’s raining, it’s Saturday! Is the game on? Your manager will know if the game is on, give them a call. Very
rarely is a decision made before Friday evening

It’s raining and it’s training tonight! Is training on? Managers/coaches call Auburn council to see if ground is
closed. You cannot train if the ground is closed, even if it’s not raining!! Parents and players call the manager
4. Please assist the coach and manager; they are working unpaid for your child. There may be nets to put up or
pull down, corner posts to stick in, players to be picked up (particularly if a parent has more than one child
playing in different teams) or shirts to wash.
5. This club and the NSW Churches Football Association have high expectations of our parents and players.
Please support our teams, but no abuse of players or officials will be tolerated and bans or fines could result.
