Introduction
Algonquin College’s one-year Office Administration – General program enables students to develop their
office, technical, communications, and human relations skills, and have the opportunity to gain practical
experience through simulated office situations. The curriculum includes courses on the Microsoft Office
Suite applications, document production, business math, and administrative procedures. Graduates of
the program have the opportunity to enter the second year of the two-year Office Administration
diploma program – Executive, Legal, or Medical specialization. Students may also choose to complete a
double-diploma with specialization in both Executive and Legal Studies. Approximately 89% of graduates
in the program find employment in their field.
Academic Credit Recognition of Canadian Forces Resource Management Support Clerk (RMS
CLK) for Office Administration - General Ontario College Certificate (0210X)
As a result of an innovative partnership between Algonquin College and the Canadian Forces (CF),
qualified current and former CF RMS CLK – BMQ, QL3, QL5, PLQ, and QL6A, members are eligible to
receive credit recognition which accelerates the time it takes to complete Algonquin’s Office
Administration – General program.
Algonquin College, through its School of Business, undertook an assessment of the CF Resource
Management Support Clerk (RMS CLK) training program. The purpose was to identify the components of
the training program that are equivalent to the required learning outcomes for the courses in
Algonquin’s Office Administration – General program. There are a total of 12 courses in the Office
Administration – General program. As a result, qualified current and former RMS CLK members may
receive credit for the following courses in the Office Administration – General program.

Business Math Foundations
Students are provided with a review of the essential basics of
business mathematics. Ratio, proportion and percent are
covered. Students also study payroll-type applications.
Computer Basics and Presentation Software Skills
Efficient use of computers and office productivity tools is
essential for the timely completion of assigned tasks in the
workplace. Students develop their software skills through a
series of activities and practical tests, and increase their
abilities with presentation software, ensuring that they are
following instructions, proofreading and using software
functions correctly. Beginning with the operating system,
students develop a range of valuable skills for computer
operation, file management, email and electronic calendaring
techniques.
Spreadsheet Applications (OA)
Efficient use of computers and office productivity tools is
essential for the timely completion of assigned tasks in the
workplace. Students continue to develop their skills with
office productivity tools. Through a series of activities and
practical tests, students develop a range of valuable skills for
computer operation and spreadsheets, ensuring that they are
following instructions, proofreading and using software
functions properly. Prerequisite: QUA2223
Bookkeeping
The ability to accurately record day-to-day transactions is an
essential skill for bookkeepers and office administration staff.
Students complete the full accounting cycle from identifying
and recording business transactions through to the
preparation of financial statements while following Generally
Accepted Accounting Principles. Activities focus on the
manual preparation of a complete set of accounting records.
General Education Elective
Students choose one course, from a group of general
education electives, which meets one of the following five
theme requirements: Arts in Society, Civic Life, Social and
Cultural Understanding, Personal Understanding and Science
and Technology.

To satisfy the requirements of Algonquin’s Office Administration - General program the remaining five
(5) listed courses must be completed within two (2) years from the date you commence (register in) the
first of the remaining courses.

The courses are available part-time on-campus or online through Algonquin College’s Centre for
Continuing and Online Learning.
Process for Eligible Current and Former CF Members to Move Forward with
Office Administration - General Program
Apply for Credit Recognition. Applicants must submit via email (a PDF) or fax a completed Academic
Credit Recognition Application Form (available on this website) which includes signature of a Superior
Officer verifying that the applicant’s military qualifications and years of service (as applicable) are
correct to:

Contact Emily Roberts to submit an application processing fee of $70.00 ($10.00 processing fee per
course @ 7 courses. See the 7 courses listed in Table 1). Payment can be made by certified cheque,
VISA, MasterCard, or American Express.
Once the required documentation and application processing fee has been received, an
acknowledgment of receipt will be sent to applicant.
Once the documents have been reviewed and deemed acceptable, eligible course exemptions will be
awarded. A record of the exemptions awarded will be mailed to the applicant.
STEP 2 – To register for course(s). Courses are available part-time on-campus or online through
Algonquin College’s Centre for Continuing and Online Learning.

Please note: Graduation from Algonquin College’s academic programs is dependent upon successful
completion of all course requirements of the Program of Study, fulfillment of the twenty-five percent
(25%) residency requirement, and good standing in the College. The residency requirement is the
percentage of program hours which must be completed with Algonquin College under the instruction of
the College faculty. The current residency requirement is 25% of hours of instruction as established by the
Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development.
