Wireless Utility Full Manual 1. Software/Hardware Installation Please install the software before inserting the wireless adapter in the system! • • Insert the CD-ROM into your computer. The Sitecom installer will start. • • • • • Click Install to start the installation of the drivers. Follow the instructions in the wizard to complete the installation. Please register your product when the installation is finished. After registering, please shut down the computer. Plug in the USB adapter into a free USB port. • • Start the computer. The computer will automatically detect and install the new hardware. Note: Windows 98 users might need their Windows 98 installation CD-ROM to complete the installation. • Windows 2000/XP users are offered the option to enable the Guest account. This can be helpful if you want to use Windows ‘File and Printer Sharing’. Click Yes to enable the Guest Account. • The installation is now finished. 2. Using the Sitecom Wireless Utility The Sitecom Wireless Utility can be used to view all wireless networks in range, and connect to them. When you connect to a network, the Wireless Utility automatically generates a profile for it. • When the utility is first started, the main screen is shown. • Click Site Survey to view all wireless networks in range. • Select the desired network, and click Connect in order to make a wireless connection. Note: If your network is encrypted, the Wireless utility will attempt to detect the type of security used. If necessary, you can change this. Click Next, and enter your encryption key. (This is the same key as setup in your modem/router or other computer.) 3. Manually Adding profiles The Wireless utility uses profiles to connect to your network(s). A profile is automatically generated if you connect to a network using Site Survey, but can also be manually created. If your network changes, it’s also possible to edit your profile manually. • Click Profile Settings to view your Preferred Networks • • To add a profile, click New profile. (Or choose Edit to edit your profile) Enter a profile name (the profile name can be chosen freely), and click Next. • Enter the correct Network Name (this has to be the same Network Name or SSID as setup in your modem/router or other computer) Select your Network Type. This can be either Access Point if you’re using an Access Point, router, or wireless modem, or Ad-Hoc if you’re using a peer-to-peer or computer-to-computer network. When you’re using an Ad-Hoc network, you’ll also need to select the same Channel on both PC’s. Click Next • • • • • • Enter your computername and Workgroup. (The Workgroup needs to be the same on all computers in your network. The computer name has to be unique in your network.) Click Next Choose whether or not you want to use encryption, and select the appropriate authentication and encryption mode. (This needs to be the same on all wireless devices in your network.) Note: If you’re using a wireless router, please enable encryption on the router first. • Click Next • For WEP encryption, the Key Length and Key Format need to be set. (The same settings need to be used on all wireless PC’s and/or the router/modem.) In the table below, the restrictions for your network key are stated. (Usually Enable DHCP has to be chosen when you’re using a router or wireless modem. If you’re using an Ad-Hoc network, please enter the correct IP-settings.) Click Next. • • Click Next again, and OK when you receive the ‘profile saved’ message. Click Connect to connect to your preferred network. 4. Sharing folders The Wireless Utility also provides an option to share folders on your computer. When you share a folder, other computers in your network can access the files in this folder. Please follow these steps to share a folder on your computer. • • In the utilities main screen, press Shared folders Click New Share to add a share • • Enter a name for your share (the name can be chosen freely) Enter the path for the shared folder (or click Browse to select the folder from a list) Optionally, a few words for comment can be entered. Select the type of Access. (Select Full if you want network users to be able to add/edit/delete files, or select Read Only if network users are only allowed to view the files in this shared folder. Click Next • • • To delete a share, you can select the shared folder, and click Delete Share. The option More…’in the Wireless Utility shows extra information about the selected shared folder.
