Cabinet Minutes Sunday January 25, 2015 Call to order Approval of agenda Motion to amend agenda to add candidates for appointment made by Carmen. Rob seconded. All in favour. Motion to approve the minutes made by Erik. Kaitlin seconded. All in favour College Life Programmer Re: Shine a Light Woman’s Week will be the first week of March to raise awareness of women’s issues. The College Office is providing funding for this event. Shine the Light is to raise money for girls in refugee camps. It also represents missing and murdered Indigenous women. Going to light lights in snow, lanterns, etc. in the week. College Office is asking for volunteers from Cabinet for this event. East Bank Versus West Bank Hockey Game: Game Friday night was successful overall. The trophy is missing and they hope to buy new one. Jacob motioned to give East vs. West Bank $53.75 for a new trophy. Taylor seconded. The pole from Gzowski flag is missing. Kaitlin suggested wanting to fund more to cover cost of replacing the pole. Carmen motioned to amend the previous motion adding up to $20 for the pole. Seconded by Rob. All in favour. All in favour motion carried. Candidates Shelby Smith and Emily Cauduro interested in joining Cabinet. Rob motioned for a closed session. Carmen seconded the motion. All in favour. Shelby in Jr Social Rep position and Emily in Jr Publicity. President's Report Railjam canceled as it was found to not be feasible. Discussed having something else in Railjam’s place next year (ex winter carnival). Three minute paper (March)Students invited to take paper related to their degree and to present it and defend it in three minutes. Rob expressed interested in being a part of the selection committee to read emailed paper submissions. PRD- recommend going with something other than doors in the Cabinet Office as the doors open in so we would lose storage space. Discussed alternatives such as a curtain. Vice President’s Report CASSCDiscussed safety and security on campus as some of phones are freezing due to the cold. Discussed the idea of having cameras in common areas of colleges to make sure people are safe. Discussed benefits of people potentially acting better if know they're on camera. Also discussed need to be cautious and to make sure the footage would be for security eyes only, make sure students know there are cameras etc. Sub committee membership to be reported to CASSC after first meeting. Discussed tipi with security. Cabinet AGM (Annual General Meeting)Discussed when to have it, hoping for before elections. Will send out a doodle to try to find best time for Cabinet members. Treasurer’s Report Update on budgetBecause Railjam not happening $12,500.00 extra in budget. If doing an event and need a cashbox for an event, go to Jacob (float etc). Cabinet Professional DevelopmentDiscussed buying food for professional development. Clubs and GroupsSubcommittee to get together and review applicants, bringing recommendations to Cabinet for voting. Taylor motioned to strike a Clubs and Group Funding Sub Committee with Sr. Treasurer, Jr. Treasurer, a social rep & Giorgio. Rob seconded. All in favour. Motion carried. Senator's Report Current state in enrollment has seen a decrease with con-ed not continuing next year. Revisions to terms of reference. AP&B new policies for creation of interdisciplinary schools discussed merging existing departments. Carmen motioned for 5 min recess. Seconded by Kaitlin. All in favour. Events Update Jenna: Tobogganing -approved since Jan 14. Waiting to hear back from events coordinator Jacob: hot chocolate from 12-4 in the atrium Friday to tell people about Cabinet’s events coming up Debrief and clarification re: Trend "After Party" from before the breakNot as much attendance as expected. Need to find out if getting any money from the college office. $400 in food plus tax for this event. If there is no motion made in Cabinet to give a check for something it is not fair to ask Jacob to write one. Reminder to order according to the money you have for an event. ValentinesAndrew to start inquiring about photo booth for the event. Cabinet still expressing concern. Rob offered to try to set up a talk with Boykin to get information directly from the source. FoodNew acting general manager for Chartwells. Looking to make colleges more streamline. First year students will see charges reflected for ISW dinner etc that haven’t been removed yet (will be taken from flex account). Looking for ideas to make students eat on campus more. Giorgio Suggestion box to let people know their opinion is heard. Discussed having it with Jacob’s hot chocolate. CFS Israeli policyDiscussion what Cabinet’s position should be. Forward on any people with concerns for Cabinet’s position to Carmen. Taylor motioned that Cabinet's official position be that it is not the place of a Cabinet, the Trent Central Student Association or the University to enact by-laws that take a stance on foreign issues, and Gzowski College Cabinet will endeavour to uphold this position in our policy writing, and in the policies we choose to support at the Trent Central Student Association and the University. Seconded by Kaitlin. All in favour. Motion carried.
