Why learn sight words? • Sight words are words that can not be easily decoded because they do not follow the “rules” for letters and sounds. • They are found frequently in text • The more one-on-one time a child has learning and practicing sight words with an adult, the greater his chances to integrating them into his long-term memory. How to play this game is for 2 or more players • Print and cut out the word cards and 6 game cards at the end. • Place cards into a container (The words are entered in the order they were taught. For those who are having trouble-put in those words your child knows and then add one additional page of words. Once those are learned, continue to add one page at a time) • Pull out one card at a time. • If you can read the card, you can keep it. • If you get a “special” game card, do what it tells you to do (then place it under the container so it doesn’t get pulled again) • Play for a specific amount of time or until all the cards are gone. • The player with the most cards wins!
