Autumn Term • Introduction to computing at Sandringham • Creating a virtual tour of the school using Powerpoint, the Apple iPads and iMovie • Introduction to computer graphics using Fireworks and Photoshop So what will we be doing this year? Spring Term • First steps in programming and game design with Kodu • Solving a murder mystery and creating your own database So what will we be doing this year? Summer Term • The internet : how it works and designing your first website • PC Basics : the history of computers and how each part of the computer works Computer rooms • 3 Main Computer rooms – G1, G2 & D7 • You can also use computers in the Library at break, lunch and after school • You can access your email anywhere and also log into the school computers via the school website The rules • How many rules for safe ICT use can you come up with? • Think, Pair, Share! • 2 minutes – go! Some important ICT rules • Do not unplug any leads or tug on the leads of the monitor, mouse or keyboard • Do not go on to the Internet without permission or sites not related to class work • All internet and email access is logged – never do anything inappropriate online • Keep bags underneath desks • No eating or drinking in an ICT room Starting the Lesson At the start of the lesson you must: • enter the room calmly and quietly • stand by your allocated computer • have your planner & a pen on the desk • have your homework with you or on your network space – you need to catch up using the resources on Realsmart if you miss a lesson General When told to log on you must: • report any broken or missing equipment or if you are having an issue logging on During the lesson you must: • stay seated unless given permission to move • follow the school’s Internet User Policy • We have a ‘Three before me’ policy • Activity: Think, Pair, Share on three places you could go for help before asking your teacher The Network A server stores all the data Gateway to the Internet Each computer connects to the server Users • Individual username • Individual password which MUST be kept secret (write in your planners now!) • To change your password: Ctrl Alt Del • If you have forgotten your password you must go to the ICT office and get it reset before the next lesson • Log on now with the username and password provided by your teacher User Areas • Your own personal space is on the U: drive • Realsmart is our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), basically a big website where you can download and submit your work. • The V: drive has Central Resource Library where teachers share work with you File Management on the Network File Management on the Network File Management on the Network File Management on the Network • Create a Year 7 folder now and inside this create an ICT folder Accesing your email • Listen to the instructions given by your teacher to access your school email • Once you have done this, send an email to the person next to you saying what your favourite hobby is. Once you receive one, reply to them • All emails need to be appropriate. Bullying or inappropriate content in emails will be severely dealt with Extra curricular • iPad Queens – lunchtime club for girls being creative using the iPads • Games Designers – lunchtime club designing games using Sploder , Kodu, Scratch etc. • Raspberry Pi club – after school Thursdays Plenary • 3 rules for safe use of ict • 2 behaviour for learning rules of the ICT classroom • 1 thing that you need to practice doing
