The Baldwin School District is offering classes aimed to support all students
in their achievement on the English language arts (ELA) and math assessment
tests mandated by New York State.
On Saturday December 13, 218
eighth grade students attended the
first ELA support class at the middle
school. This is the first of two one
hour classes; the next will be held on
January 10. Students who did not
attend this class may still register for
the January 10 class, at either 10 a.m.
or 11:15 a.m., at the middle school.
Students can register by informing
their English teacher.
Support classes for the fourth grade
ELA assessment will be held January
24 and 31, at either 10 a.m. or 11:15
a.m., at each of the elementary
schools.
The district will offer support classes for the math assessment tests for
both fourth and eighth grades on April
24 and May 1, at the elementary
. schools for fourth graders and at the
middle school for eighth graders. A
flyer will be sent home with students.
POLITICIANS, CHAMBER MEMBERS and Baldwin boosters from near and far
joined together to make the Second Annual Baldwin Community Leaders
Softball Game a success. This charity affair raised money for the Baldwin
Council Against Drug Abuse and other worthwhile causes.

Awards Luncheon recently, six of
Baldwin Senior High School's partners
in the School-to-Work program were
award winners - Junior Achievement,
Jones Beach, the Baldwin Chamber of
Commerce, Hofstra University, Mercy
Medical Center and State .Farm
Insurance Campany. Members of
Baldwin's School-to-Career Committee
also attended the luncheon as guests of
Junior Achievement, State Farm
Insurance, and Mercy Medical Center.
Mercy Medical Center was a finalist
in the "large business" award category
because of its involvement with the
Baldwin School District. Projects and
programs include elementary school
student-crafted cards far patients.
Nurse Exploration Camp for middle
schoolers, and high school activities
such as mural paintings, internships,
and the Health Careers Club.
The Long Island Works Coalition, a
non-profit organization, was created to
bridge the gap between business and
education and bring together businesses, schools, parents, and students.
Baldwin High School's School-toCareer program offers a variety of
opportunities for students to explore
career choices, including Teens on the
Job at a variety of area businesses.
Shadow Day at Hofslra and Mercy
Medial Center and a mentoring program with Slate Farm Insurance
Company.
