The Colleton Center and Limehouse Family to
host Sixth Annual Polo for the Point
Sunday, November 2 is the date for the sixth annual Polo for the Point. Proceeds will benefit The
Colleton Center and be used to continue the preservation and restoration of the 700 seat performing
arts auditorium.
This benefit polo match, hosted by the Limehouse family, will be held at the Limehouse Polo Grounds
on Highway 15 N, 7201 Jefferies Highway, approximately 7 miles north of Walterboro. Buck
Limehouse says the family enjoys hosting this unique event.
"This is the third in a series of charity polo matches that our teams are hosting. The first will be
October 12 at Rose Hill in Hilton Head; the second will be in Greenville for the hospital system. The
polo players donate their time and expenses for the horses and the equipment. Polo for the Point helps
bring even more of a positive image for Walterboro and Colleton County. This event serves as a
successful fundraiser for the preservation of the Hampton Street Auditorium at Colleton Center, which
benefits all citizens.”
According to co-chairpersons Kathie Smith and Linda Kelly, the gates will open at 12:00 noon, with
pre-game activities beginning at 1:00 pm. The benefit game will be held at 2:00 pm. Activities during
the day will also include best tailgate and best hat contests, a children’s chukker, a foxhunting
demonstration by the Lowcountry Hunt, a parachuting exhibition and the traditional stomping of the
divots. Children’s activities offered will be pony rides and face painting. Several levels of
sponsorships, including preferred parking and space, tickets and advertising in the program are
available. General admission (in advance and at the gate) is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12.
This tailgating event is open to the public.
Tickets are available in Walterboro at Palmetto Parcels, Griffin Jewelers, the Artisans Center, It’s Retail
Therapy, Walterboro Colleton Chamber of Commerce, and The Colleton Center (494 Hampton St), or at
the gate on November 2.
According to Kathie Smith, Chair of the Colleton Center Board of Directors, Polo for the Point netted
$10,000 at last year’s event, and they are hoping this year will bring even more donations and
participation. “With the proceeds from our 2013 Polo for the Point, we resolved some leak and wiring
issues in the auditorium.”
The Colleton Center is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide for the preservation and
renovation of the historic Hampton Street Elementary School and for the development of an arts and
civic center.
“This event is open to the public and we invite you to bring your tailgate and join us for a fun and
relaxing Sunday afternoon of polo festivities,” Smith says.
