Carrera DIGITAL 124

Carrera DIGITAL 124
In 2015 Carrera’s elite racing division presents fantastic cars from
every period of the history of motor racing
Salzburg, January 2015 – For 2015 the worldwide market leader, Carrera, is now
introducing a fantastic new set and numerous dream cars for its premium production format DIGITAL 124. Wireless handsets equipped with 2.4 GHz WIRELESS+ technology enable Carrera
fans to move completely freely around the circuit and to admire the latest 1:24 scale cars and
track elements from every possible angle. In total four Carrera cars have been sent out to
complete spectacular drifts and daring overtaking manoeuvres. Each of the cars is fitted with
lights, so the fun can continue long after the sun has gone down. Carrera DIGITAL 124 is
suitable for slot car drivers aged 10 and upwards.
The new Carrera DIGITAL 124 ‘Racing Passion’ set arouses the passion for motor racing in
every Carrera fan. Two superlative sports cars have been sent out onto the grid of this 8metre track. One is the Corvette C7.R ‘No.03’, introduced by the GM subsidiary Chevrolet and
boasting an incredible roar. At the Rolex Motorsports Reunion in 2014 motorsport fans had
their first opportunity to view the Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, whose technical aspects were
developed by Pratt & Miller. The successor of the C6.R mastered the long distance test with
ease and is now doing everything in its power to continue Chevrolet’s winning streak. The
Corvette’s opponent is the Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 and it’s a perfect match in terms of speed.
Both cars are dressed to impress with headlights and realistic rear and brake lighting, and
authentically reproduced details. The wireless control handsets in the ‘Racing Passion’ set allow
drivers to watch and control their cars from anywhere around the circuit. However, it’s the
Carrera drivers that decide who ultimately wins. Whatever happens, thrilling races are
guaranteed!
In 2015 the slotcar specialists are ready to show what ‘Motorsport at home’ really is all about,
and have dispatched several new top class cars onto the grid. Four new Porsche models now
grace the Carrera DIGITAL 124 world. The Porsche 917 K Martini International ‘No.35’, Watkins
Glen 6h 1970 is a real retro treat, its design introducing an authentic 70s feeling to every
circuit. The Porsche also has plenty under the hood. The final 1970 version of the V8-cylinder
engine Porsche produced 442 kW at 8400 revs per minute. Back in the day the car was
powered by a 4.5-litre, 383 kW engine, making it one of the cars with the most displacement
capacity ever. No bend is too tight as the short tail was designed especially to deal with tricky
circuits. No wonder the Martini International Racing Team managed to grab 7th and 9th place in
the 6-hour race at Watkins Glen Race Course. The yellow and black Porsche Carrera 6 ‘No.42’,
12h Sebring 1967 promises a thrilling ride. Back then 260 km/h and 191 kW were unbeatable
performance stats. In 1967, the coupé produced in 1965 was responsible for taking home the
final victory at the 12-hour race at Sebring. The Formula 1 chassis of this car was designed by
the English company Lotus and was used in the sports car championship in 1971. Porsche’s
current models also have plenty to offer. The Porsche GT3 RSR ‘Gulf Racing No.86’, Silverstone
4h 2014 combines design perfection with an ultra-modern chassis. The 6-cylinder boxer engine
Porsche in the orange-and-bright blue gulf outfit can achieve 7800 rpm with 460 hp. And that’s
not all! The black Porsche GT3 RSR ‘Haribo Racing’ with a bear-covered livery also imports
authentic racetrack emotions into every arena. The classic shape and the powerful 4-litre, 500
hp 6-cylinder boxer engine guarantees excellent results at long distances races with top
speeds of around 290 km/h. Richard Westbrook won the 12-hour race at the Sebring
racetrack, Norbert Siedler was victorious at the Norisring circuit.
The BMW M1 Procar is new to the Carrera DIGITAL 124 fleet and is available in two versions.
It’s a supersportscar with an impressive history. In Belgium in 1979 there was a fantastic
battle of the giants when top Formula 1 drivers were pitted against touring car drivers for the
first time. This BMW M1 was driven by Swiss star, Clay Regazzoni. The car was fitted with an
M88 6-cylinder sport-tuned engine and generated a stunning 470 hp to impress some of the
world’s top drivers. Big names from the world of Formula 1 such as Niki Lauda, Nelson Piquet
and Alan Jones were thrilled by the power the sports car produced. A year later races were
also held independent of Formula-1 participation. One of the frontrunners was the BMW M1
Procar driven by Hans Heyer who was in seventh position in the championship after nine races.
GS Tuning found the ideal sponsor for the car in BASF, whose livery design featuring white
spirals on a red background was a real visual treat for spectators.
No competition would be complete without the involvement of a powerful Italian car.
Possession of a worldwide exclusive reproduction license granted by Ferrari for the slotcar
sector entitles Carrera to add some Italian classics to their fleet for 2015 with the Ferrari 330
P4 ‘No.03’, Monza 1967 and the Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 ‘Black Bull, No. 64’, GT Open. At the
1000-km race at Monza in 1967 a Ferrari 330 P4 finished in first and second place to beat
Porsche to the sports car championship by just 2 points. The construction of the car was
original! For the first time, each cylinder of the 12-cylinder motor-block was fitted with 3
valves. This enabled the red fireball to produce 450 hp. Genuine motorsport fans know that the
Italian carmakers have a GT series and are involved in far more than just Formula 1 racing.
However, Ferrari still remains true to its classic traits, as can be seen by the elegant and
aerodynamic design of the 458 Italia GT3. A 550 hp, V8 induction engine enabled the
Venturi/Camathias team to qualify in fifth for the GT Open 2014 at the Nürburgring.
German carmakers also have plenty to offer. Mercedes Benz has fitted its V8 supercars with
cutting edge technology, and the drivers of the young Australian Erebus team, driving the
Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3 ‘Erebus Motorsports No.1A’, is already strongly tipped for
success in the next cup. The 550 hp car can achieve a top speed of 300 km/h. Audi has also
sent out a new car onto the Carrera DIGITAL 124 track. In 2014 the GT3 racer, Audi R8 LMS
Prosperia C. Abt Racing ‘No.10’, was victorious in the ADAC GT Masters. 570 hp and a V10
engine have already helped the customer sports racing car to 18 finishes on the winners’
podium. A 5.2-litre, V10 induction engine, built in the style of the GT3 group, provides
powerful rear-wheel drive.
Carrera provides a comprehensive range of accessories to make racing at home even more
realistic. The wireless control sets incorporate 2.4 GHz WIRELESS+ technology to allow
freedom of movement within a 15-metre radius for drivers and their controls. The Lithium
Polymer battery allows drivers to put the pedal to the metal for up to eight hours before it’s
time to hook them up to the recharger. Some of the cars even have a chassis that can be
raised, and all of them can be set to one of ten speed levels via the control unit, making it
possible to stage races between beginners and masters, young and old. ‘Carrera AppConnect’
is a ground-breaking development that enables the circuit to be hooked up to a tablet or
smartphone via bluetooth. Downloading the Carrera Race App for iOS and Android is free, and
subsequently ‘Carrera AppConnect’ it is connected up to the control unit on the circuit for a
wireless link to your mobile device. Once set up, all race settings and car settings, such as fuel
levels, braking and top speed, can be controlled via the Carrera Race App. The Carrera Race
App also facilitates the digital recording of lap times, which can subsequently be shared with
friends on Facebook. Spectacular racing thrills are guaranteed in 2015!
