Reasons for Old Model (Policy Governance Hybrid) Feedback • Promotes growth • Didn’t work that way: we didn’t grow. • Frees the Board to focus on policy and strategy • Board was too far removed from the activities of the congregation. New committee proposed for long-term strategies. • • Need Policy Governance model to evolve from pastoral to program type congregation • • We are Pastoral size. Almost none of the “program size” congregations use this model. • Policy Governance simplifies and expedites decision making • No one person fully understood the responsibilities, processes and procedures of each committee and Operations Group. System was too complicated. People don’t understand how the church is run. Board was asked to help direct the OG slowing the process down. • •
