O CONSTRUCT THE EW PRE - SCHOOLS SURVEY 2010
league tables of early childhood education (ECE)
institutions, 350 pre-schools short-listed by
EducationWorld were assessed by a carefully selected
respondents base comprising 1,232 SEC (socio-economic
category) A parents with at least one child in pre-school
and 290 principals/teachers across 10 parameters or
attributes. Pre-schools or ECE institutions need to be
evaluated according to separate and distinct parameters
from primary-secondary schools. For instance apart from
competence of teachers (given the highest weightage),
parameters such as individual attention to students,
parental involvement, innovative teaching, safety and
hygiene and play facilities are specially important in preschool education. Sample respondents is six cities were
asked to rate pre-schools in their civic limits on 10
parameters — competence of teachers, individual attention
to students, value for money, leadership quality, parental
involvement, innovative teaching, infrastructure provision,
safety and hygiene, special needs education and play
facilities.
The ratings awarded under each of these 10 parameters
were then aggregated to rank the most preferred preschools in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and
Hyderabad. In Delhi, 208 SECA parents and 55 principals/
teachers were polled. Pre-schools ranked among the top
20 under each attribute or parameter are set out below.
