Summary
•
Marketing Committee (MC) The IEEE 802.15 Marketing Committee (MC) for WPANs™ is
coordinating WG submissions to ensure that the WPAN marketplace, WPAN market
overlap, and the WPAN market messages are complementary and clearly defined to our
IEEE Sponsor. The following bullets highlight Session #8:

The TG1 Chair advised that the An IEEE Guide: How to Find What You Need in the Bluetooth
Specification a.k.a. “Pocket Guide” manuscript was released to peer review on 11Sep00.
The TG2 Chair requested collateral placement support of the pending Call For Submission –00/009r4.
The MC place the CFP on the following IEEE Web Sites::

The TG2 Chair is still trying to submit an editorial into the Bluetooth™ SIGnal Newsletter – which is
still on hold pending a new Editor/Publisher.
The two (2) Study Groups were too busy studying to worry about MARCOM. The MC agreed to
revisit the SGs in Nov00.
Also, at Session #8, the committee made forward progress in coordinating with their collocated
802.11 marketing peers. The two (2) MC entities tentatively agreed to revise the Tuesday 10:30 to
12:00pm timeslot to be a single Joint Session with a single set of minutes (using the newly minted
Joint Document Numbering system). Obviously action items will be tracked inside the WGs.
The MC would like to thank Motorola for Hosting the Interim Meeting! See you in Tampa.

Bluetooth Specification”: the first draft of the manuscript for the
pocket guide (~150 pg.) was distributed 11Sep00 for peer review.
The contract between Bluetooth and IEEE is still in review i.e.,
one signature remaining. Action Item: MC to advise on
contract status.

collateral is still in author/publisher review Action Item: MC to
advise on manuscript & contract status.

Question: IEEE testing to ensure compatibility? Reply: No, but
Bluetooth is licensing third party companies to conduct these
tests. Question: What about putting the IEEE logo on products?
Reply: In the past the IEEE's logo hasn't been allowed on
products. Comment: Bluetooth testing also includes profiles
which are above the MAC layer. Action Item: MC to investigate
this further.

MC chair talked to the status on the WPAN trademark and URL
effort IEEE has registered 802.15. Action Item: MC to submit
protest to internic.com concerning the use of WPAN as a
domain names by other concerns.

merged and that the 802.15 MC Chair consider adding a second
timeslot on Monday for 802.15 preparatory work. Action Item:
