Johnstown-Milliken Rotary Club

Vision Statement: The Johnstown-Milliken Rotary Club (JMRC) comprises community-minded local
residents who chiefly support, encourage, and facilitate local youth in education, community
involvement, leadership and literacy.
o We meet Thursday mornings at 7am at Johnson’s Corner Truck Stop: 2842 SE Frontage

Children’s Bedtime Reading: 3rd Thursday of each month @6:30pm (Sept. – May) at the Milliken Police
Station. Books, activities, and snacks for children of the community.

Dictionaries – The JMRC provides dictionaries to all 3rd grade students in the Johnstown-Milliken
school district, including charter and homeschools.

Student of the Month – Providing a $100.00 scholarship to one outstanding Roosevelt High School
student.
o Student of the Year: JMRC chooses one of the nine Students of the Month and provides a
$300.00 scholarship.

INTERACT: This Lettering Club at Roosevelt High School is an extension of the JMRC.

RYLA and Young RYLA (http://www.rmryla.org/about_young_ryla.html)
o Rotary Youth Leadership Awards: A leadership training program sponsored by Rotary
International that promotes and encourages young people.
o The JMRC sends two high school (RYLA) and two middle school (Young RYLA) students each
year to an all-expense paid five-day camp either at Estes Park or Larkspur that brings together a
special group of boys and girls (from Northern Colorado, Wyoming and Western Nebraska) to
share ideas about becoming better leaders. It is an action-packed program of activities that help
build confidence and leadership skills like problem-solving games, challenge course, zip line,
skits, group discussions and teambuilding activities.

