Needs and Disability Co-ordinator)

Line Management
The role will be line managed by the member of the senior leadership team
with responsibility for Pastoral matters and Student welfare.

To provide professional leadership and management of provision for
students with Special educational needs, disabilities and additional needs
in order to secure the best possible outcomes for girls.
To be responsible for the day-to-day operation and provision made by the
School for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
To be a visible and effective advocate for all vulnerable students.
To be pro-active in providing professional guidance to departments across
the school, to ensure that the best strategies are employed for SEND
pupils in order to secure high quality teaching and learning.
To ensure the effective use of resources to improve standards of
achievement for students.
To liaise with and co-ordinate appropriate external agencies in supporting
SEND and vulnerable students.
To fulfil the statutory requirements in respect of students with special
needs, with particular regard to EHCP.
To understand and update stakeholders on Equality law and changes to
the SEND Code of Practice, including implications of any changes for the
school’s Access Arrangements, health and safety requirements and
provision for students with special educational needs, medical needs or
disabilities.
To map the provision for SEND students to ensure that all needs are
being met.
To co-ordinate the development and implementation of SEND policies/
local offer.
To inform and disseminate information and training to all departments
within the School.
To support students with medical needs in School and liaise with the
Clerical Assistant for Pupil Welfare who oversees and coordinates their
needs.
Facilitate and oversee the transition of pupils with SEND across all key
stages, i.e. Year 6 into 7; Year 9 into 10; Post-16/18.
To meet with the member of the Leadership team with responsibility for
pastoral matters on a weekly basis.
To identify and adopt the most effective interventions such as group/1:1
interventions for students with SEND and ensure the effective running of
these, monitoring their impact.
Identify and teach study skills that will develop students’ ability to work
independently.




To work with individual students referred for learning support, creating
support plans that match the needs of each student.
Provide teaching staff with strategies for how they can best support
SEND and other vulnerable students in the classroom.
To keep up to date with national developments in curriculum
development and teaching practice and methodology.
Ensure robust tracking systems are in place to collect and interpret
specific student level assessment data allowing the school to identify
progress and intervention strategies.
Set up systems for screening pupils at ‘point of entry’ identifying,
assessing and reviewing provision for SEND children once identified.
To ensure accurate and up-to-date information is shared on SIMs.
To assist in the use of analysis and evaluation of performance data.
To identify and take appropriate action on issues arising from data,
systems and reports, setting deadlines where necessary and reviewing
progress on the action taken.
To liaise with Pupil Achievement Leaders to produce reports within the
Assessment, Recording and Reporting cycle.
Attend EHCP review meetings, parent evening consultations keeping
parents informed about their child’s progress.
Ensure EHCPs are monitored regularly, are live documents and their
impact is assessed and progress can be evidenced.
Ensure the SEND register is up to date and all stake holders are fully
informed about support programmes in place/planned.
To provide the Governing Body with relevant information relating to
SEND student performance and development, and teaching and learning
if appropriate.
To contribute to the School’s whole range of CPD programmes e.g.
Teachers/NQT/ITT/Exam invigilators.
To promote teamwork and to motivate staff to ensure effective working
relations.
To keep abreast of publications and best practice to enhance your own
professional development.
To help to develop the effectiveness of teaching and learning for SEND
students in all relevant curriculum areas
To be prepared to act as a line manager, if required, to colleagues within
the SEND department.
Have a clear presence around the School so that teachers and students
know who you are and how you can help them.
To ensure effective communications as appropriate with the parents of
students.
To liaise with relevant external bodies attending meetings where
required.
To liaise with the Literacy Coordinator to develop intervention
programmes for students to support their progress.
To work with departments to develop an ethos of inclusion.
To contribute to the development of effective links with schools in the
King Edward VI MAT and the community, attending where necessary
liaison/network events.
To promote actively the development of effective links with external
agencies.
To lead on access arrangements for students with Special Educational
Needs and liaise with the Examinations Officer to ensure the
arrangements are in place.

Resources









Pastoral Care






Support for the School:







Liaise with teaching and support staff regarding strategies for individual
students and their progress on on-going basis.
Liaise with Admissions and meet prospective pupils/parents if applicable.
To manage the available resources of money and equipment efficiently
within the limits, guidelines and procedures laid down: including
deploying budget, acting as a cost centre holder, requisitioning,
organising and maintaining stock and keeping appropriate records.
To identify appropriate resources to support the teaching of students with
additional needs and to contribute to the efficient, effective and safe use
of physical resources.
To ensure the sharing and effective usage of resources to the benefit of
the School and the students.
Take the lead in liaising, co-ordinating and managing all external support
offered to the School locally and from external agencies, including multiagency reviews.
Develop a SEND Department Handbook.
Provide information on SEND for the annual Census.
To ensure use of IT to full capacity in order to produce high quality
documents.
To organise and present information for reports in a variety of formats.
To ensure that the aspirations of all students are appropriately
challenged.
Liaise with PALs and SLT to ensure that vulnerable students and those
with SEND receive consistent and first class pastoral care.
Manage the production of termly reports and individual education plans
for those students who are supported in and out of the classroom.
Be prepared to take on the role of a form tutor if required.
Assist with extra-curricular activities within school as appropriate.
Attend full staff meetings, parents’ evenings and any other HoD/Pastoral
school meeting as required.
To be aware of and comply with all school policies and procedures in
particular relating to child protection, health and safety, confidentiality and
data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate senior member of
staff.
To be aware of and support difference to help ensure everyone has equal
access to the services of the school and feels valued, respecting their
social, cultural, linguistic, religious and ethnic background.
To contribute to the school ethos, aims and development/improvement
plan.
To work as part of a team, appreciating and supporting the role of other
people within the team.
Assist with cover if required.
To attend and participate in meetings as required.
Participate and contribute to your annual performance management
review and professional learning needs.
The post holder will be expected to carry out any other duties associated with the work of the school as
may be directed by the Headmistress, commensurate with the grade of the post.
This job description will be reviewed and updated periodically in order to ensure that it relates to the job
performed or to incorporate any proposed changes. This procedure will be conducted by the Headmistress
in consultation with the post holder. In these circumstances it will be the aim to reach agreement on
reasonable changes but if agreement is not possible management reserve the right to make changes to
the job description following consultation.
