PLATTSMOUTH BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL PARENTS ASSOCIATION
2014 RULES OF CONDUCT
RULES FOR PLAYERS
1.
2.
3.
4.
Players will be drug, alcohol and tobacco free.
Players will show respect for coaches at all times. Coaches will be addressed as coach, Coach Smith, or Mr./Ms. Smith.
Players will not yell at or argue with coaches. In case of a disagreement or the player does not understand the coaches
philosophy, a private respectful discussion is the appropriate solution.
Players will show respect to umpires at all times. If a controversial call occurs the coach is responsible to call time and
discuss it with the umpire. The player will not argue with the umpire.
Players will not display unsportsmanlike or destructive behavior. Making negative remarks to umpires, coaches, teammates,
opponents, spectators, cussing audibly or “under ones breath”, throwing bats or helmets, kicking dirt or fences, pushing,
punching or spitting at anyone and other types of negative behavior are unacceptable.
RULES OF PARENTS
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Parents will not try to coach their children during a game. This includes during warm-ups, the entire game, and immediately
following the game when the coaches are reviewing the game with their team.
Parents will have no communication with umpires during a game. Under no circumstances will any spectator complain about
a ruling an umpire makes on the field. There will be no heckling or remarks etc.
Parents will have no negative communication with coaches at a game or a practice. Unless there is immediate concern about
a child’s physical or emotional well being, concerned parents will call the coach and schedule a time to discuss issues. This
time will be independent of any game or practice.
Parents/spectators will not have any communication with any coach or player on the opposing team.
Parents will not assist or interfere in any way with any practice or game. If someone desires to be of assistance, they can
volunteer their services to the coach and then help out as directed. The coach is in control at all times. A parent arbitrarily
entering a practice field and teaching a technique may be teaching in a way completely contradictory to the coach and may
cause confusion for the players.
RULES FOR COACHES
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Coaches will protect umpires from spectators. If a parent/spectator is making inappropriate comments to or about an
umpire or his calls, the coach will ask the individual to stop or to leave and if necessary remind them that their child can
be removed from the team.
Coaches will not criticize a player or engage in any behavior physically or emotionally abusive to a player.
Coaches will protect both his and the opposing teams players and coaches from spectators. If a parent/spectator is
making inappropriate comments to opposing teams players and coaches, the coach will ask the individual to stop or to
leave and if necessary remind them that their child can be removed from the team.
Coaches will make only constructive remarks to an umpire. When a questionable call occurs or if a coach needs
clarification of a rule, the coach will call time out and have a respectful discussion with the umpire. No yelling, kicking
dirt, rending of garments, etc. is acceptable.
Coaches will be drug, alcohol and tobacco free where youth players are present, on the field during practices and games.
STEPS FOR CONFLICT RESOLUTION
1.
2.
3.
If a conflict occurs between two individuals, such as a coach and a player, or a coach and a parent, etc., the appropriate
way to handle the conflict is; for a time to be arranged to have a respectful discussion of the disagreement, Either party
may request a member of the board to be present as a witness or a mediator and this will be provided.
If resolution cannot be reached between the two parties the next step is to take the issue to the commissioner for that age
group.
If resolution of the issue cannot be reached the problem is then referred to the entire board.
