NOTICE OF RACE
1. RULES
1.1
The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-2020.
1.2
The organizing authority will be Rutland SC, the IOKDBCA and Lark Class Owners Association.
1.3
Competitors shall comply with the Recreational Byelaws of Anglian Waterways. All boats and trailers
brought to the regatta shall be free of Aquatic Invasive Species and shall therefore comply with the
procedure described in the appendix to this NoR. Rutland SC Check, Clean and Dry procedure. Appended

1.4
Competitors should note that the host sailing club implements the RYA Racing Charter and that they will
be required to undertake to sail in compliance with the Charter, which can be found at the front of the
RYA rule book (Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-20), or at
http://www.rya.org.uk/racing/Pages/RacingCharter.aspx
1.5
RRS 40 will be changed to require the wearing of personal flotation devices at all times when on the club
pontoons or afloat. Flag Y will not be displayed. The changes will appear in full in the Sailing Instructions .
The Sailing Instructions may also change other rules
2. ADVERTISING
2.1
There will be no restriction on advertising.

3. ELIGIBILITY & ENTRY
3.1
The regatta is open to boats of the OK and Lark classes.
3.2
Helms and crews under 18 years of age during the event shall submit signed Parent/Guardian Declarations
at the time of entry.
3.3
Eligible boats may enter on the day at the Rutland Sailing Club office.

5. SCHEDULE
5.1
Registration will be held at the Race Office from 09:30hrs on Saturday.
5.2
There will be a briefing in the upstairs wet bar at 1045 on Saturday 24th June.
5.2
The warning signal for the first Lark race on Saturday will be no earlier than 1155 with the warning signal
for the first OK race to follow the Lark start.
5.3
The warning signal for the first Lark race on the Sunday will be no earlier than
1025 with the warning signal for the first OK race to follow the Lark start.
5.4
It is intended that there will be 8 races, with 4 sailed back-to-back on each day.
5.5
It is intended that there will be 2 standard length races and 2 short races each
day
5.6
On the Sunday no warning signal will be made after 14.30 hrs.
6. MEASUREMENT
All boats and sails must have been measured since new. Each Class Association reserves the right to carry out spot
checks to ensure compliance.
7. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
7.1
Sailing instructions will be issued at registration.
8. VENUE
The venue is Rutland Water, Rutland Sailing Club, Gibbet’s Lane Edith Weston, Rutland LE15 8HJ
9. THE COURSES
9.1
For the standard length races it is intended that the fleets will sail the same course and that these will be
sausage-triangle (ST) or triangle-sausage (TS) courses.
9.2 The short race courses will be outer loop trapezoid for the Larks and inner loop trapezoid for the OK.
9.3 The courses will be described in the Sailing Instructions
10. SCORING
The scoring system is as follows;
10.1
Larks:
10.1(a) Two races will be required to be completed to constitute a series.
10.1(b) When fewer than 5 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will
be the total of her race scores.
10.1(c) When 5 or more races have been completed; a boat’s series score will
be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
10.2 OK:
10.2(a) Four races will constitute a series.
10.2 (b) When fewer than 4 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will
be the total of her race scores.
10.2(c) When 4 or 5 races have been completed a boat’s series score will
be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
10.2(d) When 6 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will
be the total of her race scores excluding her two worst scores.
11. RADIO COMMUNICATION
Except in an emergency, a boat that is racing shall no make voice or data transmissions and shall not receive voice or
data communication that is not available to all boats.

12. PRIZES
A prize will be awarded to the winner of the OK Inland Championship and of the Lark Inland Championship. Other prizes
may be awarded at the discretion of the organisers.
13. RISK STATEMENT
Rule 4 of the racing rules of sailing states: "the responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to
continue racing is hers alone." Sailing is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore inherently involves
an element of risk. By taking part in the event, each competitor agrees and acknowledges that:
(a) They are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport and accept responsibility for the
exposure of themselves, their crew and their boat to such inherent risk whilst taking part in the event;
(b) They are responsible for the safety of themselves, their crew, their boat and their other property whether
afloat or ashore;
(c) They accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by their own actions or
omissions;
(d) Their boat is in good order, equipped to sail in the event and they are fit to participate;
(e) The provision of a race management team, patrol boats and other officials and volunteers by the event
organiser does not relieve them of their own responsibilities;
(f) The provision of patrol boat cover is limited to such assistance, particularly in extreme weather conditions,
as can be practically provided in the circumstances.
(g) It is their responsibility to familiarise themselves with any risks specific to this venue or this event drawn to
their attention in any rules and information produced for the venue or event and to attend any safety
briefing held for the event.
14. INSURANCE
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third party liability insurance with a minimum cover of £2 million per
incident or the equivalent.

APPENDIX:
Check, Clean & Dry Procedure for visiting ribs, dinghies &
cruisers.
In order to comply with Anglian Waters’ byelaws for Rutland Water all visiting boats must comply with the CHECK,
CLEAN & DRY procedure BEFORE ARRIVING AT Rutland Sailing Club.
Check

Dry
Check your equipment and clothing for living organisms. Pay particular
attention to areas that are damp or hard to inspect.
Clean and wash all equipment, footwear and clothes thoroughly, use hot
water where possible. If you do come across any organisms, leave them
at the water body where you found them. (Cleaning & washing must be
done away from Rutland Water when visiting the Club)
Dry all equipment and clothing – some species can live for many days in
moist conditions. Make sure you don’t transfer water elsewhere.
Visiting boats will be randomly checked on arrival and if found to be in a condition that causes concern, will not be
allowed to be brought on site. All sailors & rib drivers will be expected to sign a statement to confirm that they have
Checked, Cleaned and Dried their boats before arriving at RSC. This will be normally included with the race entry form
or the rib registration form that must be signed before racing starts.
Additional Information
Ribs: Any ribs that have flooding hulls are not allowed to be brought to the club. Engines should be flushed out with
hot water before they are brought to Rutland water.
Launching Trollies/Trailers: should not be left in the water for any longer than is necessary to launch &
recover the boat
