First Announcement
Call for Abstracts and Registration
The Cyprus Mathematical Society is announcing the organization of the European
Student Conference in Mathematics EUROMATH2010. At this stage students of age 1218 from any European or International school who may be interested in attending the
Conference with or without a presentation should proceed with the registration process.
The deadline for abstracts/summaries is 30 November 2009. Notification of
acceptance of abstracts will be before 30 December 2009. Registration should be
completed by 15 January 2010.
The Conference will consist of several workshops/symposiums/sessions covering multiple
themes. Students are encouraged to present work from projects in mathematics in the
following themes but not limited to. Group presentations are also welcome and full
audiovisual technology will be available. The official language of the conference is
English. Abstracts/summaries may be provided, in addition to English, in the mother
language of the student.

About BadGoisern
Bad Goisern am Hallstättersee is Part of World Heritage Region.
It will become the hosting town for the congress.
Some Highlights from this region:
Bad Goisern am Hallstättersee
Bad Goisern is situated at an elevation of 500 meters and has
about 8.500 inhabitants. The folk culture and the trade is closely
connected with Bad Goisern. Especially the handmade Goiserer
shoes are very well known all over the world. The sights in Bad
Goisern
are
the
Heimat&
Landlermuseum,
the
Holzknechtmuseum, Anzenaumühle and the Handwerkshaus.
Gosau am Dachstein
Gosau is in winter the centre of the family ski resort “Dachstein
West” und in summer it’s ideal for rambling and hiking particular
at Zwieselalm and Löckermoos. The village is at an elevation of
780 meters and has about 2.000 inhabitants. The Gosausee with
its view to the glacier of the Dachstein and the reflection in the
lake is very famous.
Hallstatt
This picturesque village on the shore of the lake which takes its
name owes its existence to rich salt deposits, which have been
mined here since the days of the Celts and Illyrians. Hallstatt has
an altitude 508 m above sea level and nearly 1.000 inhabitants.
Additional to the salt mine, the world heritage museum and the
charnel house are popular sites in
Hallstatt.
Obertraun
Obertraun has about 800 inhabitants and is at an elevation of
800 meters. The Krippenstein (2.000 meter) is the local
mountain of Obertraun and offers a lot. In winter it’s a paradise
for free ride skiing. In summer there are the Ice and Mamut
cave and the plateau for rambling. A new attraction is the
outdoor deck “Five Fingers” where you have a breathtaking
few to the world heritage region
Hallstatt-Dachstein Salzkammergut.

Preliminary programme and other activities
The opening ceremony is planned to be held on Friday morning 26 February 2010 at 9.30
a.m. The presentations and workshops will take place from Friday to Saturday. Students
and teachers are expected to arrive to Salzburg-BadGoisern, Austria on Thursday 25
February and depart on Sunday 28 of February.
Participants from abroad are advised to arrive at the Salzburg Airport. The airport is about
30 km from BadGoisern. Transfers will be arranged for all participants who will book the
hotel room through the official booking suggested by the organizers. There will be three
transfers on 25 February and three transfers on 28 February.
An optional excursion will be organised during the conference at time that will be
announced later.
Transfer from Salzburg Airport to BadGoisern and back
There are taxis and mini-buses and public buses from the airport at specific times. The
cost varies but the minimum is about 15 euro each direction for the bus. Private taxis are
quite expensive. Check this website for latest information on bus schedule , which will
appear in January 2010. Inform the secretariat about your arrival and departure times so
that the organizers can schedule convenient times of bus transfers. Send message to

Visas, Money and Weather
European citizens do not require a visa. For non-European countries please check with
the nearest Austrian consulate whether you need a visa or not. The currency of Austria is
the Euro. Visa, MasterCard and American Express credit cards are accepted almost
everywhere. The temperature during the day in February in BadGoisern is usually
between plus 10 and minus 15 degrees Celsius.
Equipment
Each session room will be equipped with an overhead projector, a screen, a Lap-top
connected to an LCD projector/beamer. Please indicate the equipment you are planning
to use.
Preparation of Abstracts/Summaries
All abstracts must be at most 250 words. The abstract is written on a single column A4
page. Margins on right-left must be 4 cm each and on top-bottom 5 cm each (the full text
should have dimensions very close to 13X19 cm vertical with full justification). The
language to be used is English.
The typeset must be TIMES NEW ROMAN. The title must be centred between the
margins using TIMES 14-point type, CAPITALS, BOLD SINGLE SPACE. Leave one blank
line and then type the author(s) name(s) using TIMES 12 pt, BOLD. Underline the name
of the presenting author. Directly below type the affiliation, address and email for each
author using TIMES 10 pt. Use asterisks (*, **, ***) to correspond the name to his/her
address.
Leave four blank lines after the affiliation and address and type the word ABSTRACT
using TIMES 12 pt, CAPITALS, BOLD, CENTRED. Leave one blank line and type the
abstract using TIMES 11 pt, SINGLE SPACING.

Presented papers will be reviewed and invited for publication in the proceedings of the
conference to be published after the conference.
