Til next time, happy hitting and take care. Peter Ferguson Competition News NSNTA (Night Tennis) Currently we have 2 ladies teams in the four with the B2 sitting on top. Men’s teams are struggling a little with none currently sitting in the four. Mixed teams are solid with the D Special team sitting top. I believe the windbreak screens may have made a difference to the lighting situation. Some feedback here would be useful. Please note that any players who are yet to renew their membership should not be playing competition until their membership fees are paid. Peter Ferguson A Social sub - committee of Paul Field and Stephen Bell will continue their work on increasing the social participation of members by organising such events as the Trivia Night, Christmas Break Up, Sponsors Day and perhaps a Picnic Day at a Grass Court venue. Since our last newsletter, a lot has happened around the club. Painting has been completed and what a difference it makes to the rooms by covering up those brown brick walls. Windbreak screens have been installed and concrete pathways have been laid. 1 please make sure you have completed your forms and paid your $15 ball money/registration by this date. Players who do not do this cannot be guaranteed a place in a team for next season. Any player not wishing to continue playing competition should let their team manager, Vanda or Brian know ASAP. Note that players born in the second half of 2008 will not be eligible to play juniors next season. N.S.J.T.A. (JUNIORS) 1. Current Standings We have now completed Round 9 of the current season and now enjoying a 3 week break for school holidays. Five of the nine teams are sitting in the top four with 2 more teams in 5th place with the remaining two teams in 7th place. 2. Membership Fees There are currently 10 juniors who have not paid their club membership. Memberships are due on the 1/7/08 so are now nearly three months overdue. Any junior who has not paid their membership fees, please ensure that your membership and $10 late fee is paid to your team manager or Karen Glare ASAP as you are now not eligible to play. 8. Kilmore Tournament It was nice to see representatives of the Craigieburn Tennis Club at the Kilmore Classic Tournament on the weekend of September 19th. The kids did very well taking out trophies in the 14 Girls singles, Mixed 14 Doubles and Women’s open doubles B events. Well done to everyone involved. Note that there are often entry forms for tournaments available at the clubrooms. It is a great way to gain experience and improve your tennis. 3. Player Transfers and additional registrations. October 18th Round 11 is the cut-off date for player transfers. Any juniors wishing to transfer will need a form signed before this date. Team managers note also that any new players wishing to gain registration would need to have played their 3rd match by October 18th Round 11. 9. Club Championships Just a reminder that club championships are on November 9, 16 and 23. Try to keep these dates free and make sure you get your entries forms in. This will be advertised once competition starts again. It’s great to see so many juniors at team practice the courts are filled with kids every night of the week. Happy hitting good luck for the rest of the season. Strive to achieve that top 4. Go Craigieburn. 4. Team Protests If, during the home and away matches, a team manager feels that they need to sign a result sheet “under protest”, they are to advise Brian or Vanda of the circumstances of the protest. We will then take any further action if required, and will submit any letter to the match secretary if required. Vanda Hammond & Brian Brooks NSJTA Delegates and Junior Co-ordinators. NSLTA – MIDWEEK LADIES The mid-week ladies’ team needs some new players. The competition takes place on Thursdays between 10.00 A.M. and 2.00 P.M. Please ring Anne on 5783 2665 for more information. 5. Umpiring When at all possible parents should not be umpiring matches. It is important that all children are able to umpire themselves by the time they reach A & B grades. Therefore they need to be encouraged at D grade level onwards to be on the court umpiring with the assistance of parents when required. “Seniors’ Social Tennis Program” 6. NSJTA Meeting At the last Association meeting a motion was passed to cap the number of players transferring from one club to another. This was capped at 5 with a family unit counted as one transfer. A second motion was passed to suspend any player from playing for 3 weeks for their new club if they do not fulfil their umpiring commitments for their old club. Get active, have fun and make new friends. We are looking for new people. The program is at 1.00 pm each Monday. Please contact Anne on the following number to enquire. Anne France (03) 5783 2665 (a local call if made from Craigieburn). 7. Team Entries for Season 1 2009 The closing date for current players wishing to play season 1, 2009 will be Saturday November 8.
