History
The success of the men’s youth competitions led to the launch of a U-19 Women’s World Cup in 2002, which later
became the current U-20 event. The USA won the first edition by defeating hosts Canada in a ‘dream final’ watched
by a bumper crowd of almost 50,000. Germany 2010 recorded the highest average number of spectators with 12,353
and the best-ever total in the competitions history with 395,295.

Description
The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Trophy captures the youthful aspiration
demonstrated by the women competing in this FIFA tournament perfectly. It stretches
up in a pose of commitment and celebration and represents the graceful and dynamic
performance by these young athletes.
Two ‘arms’ embrace a football as a globe (a consistent feature amongst almost all of
FIFA’s event trophies), promising and delivering the world to the young women talented
enough to finally grasp their reward.

Hat-tricks
24 players, representing eleven different countries, have scored a hat trick in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. Inevitably,
Christine Sinclair (CAN) and Kim Un Hwa (PRK) head the list scoring five goals for their country. Brazil’s Marta scored the very first
hat-trick in a 4-0 victory over France in 2002.
