JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Research and Evaluation Officer Accountable To: Research Manager Manages: This post does not currently have direct reports Location: NDTi office in Bath, with some national travel Hours of Work: 35 hours per week (full time) Salary: Up to £27,000 per annum, depending on experience 1. NDTi Purpose The National Development Team for inclusion is a not for profit organisation working to enable people at risk of exclusion due to age or disability to live the life they choose. Role summary As a member of the research and evaluation team, the post holder will work on a range of various short, medium and long-term commissioned and grant funded research and evaluation projects, across the full breadth of NDTi’s themes of work. The post-holder’s work will involve a range of activities including project design, literature reviews, qualitative and quantitative data collection (including fieldwork) and analysis and report writing. Key Activities The post holder will do the following: a) Project Design Contribute to the development of proposals and ideas for new research and evaluation studies and the preparation of proposals to funders Ensure that the methodologies being used are robust and reflect best practice in ways that are appropriate to the specific questions being considered In conjunction with and supported by senior NDTi colleagues, to design the methodology of studies, within the available resources, to achieve the desired overall outcomes b) Project Delivery To undertake a range of activities to deliver research and evaluation projects, including: Contributing to successful ethical approval processes Designing and completing literature searches and evidence reviews Developing methodologies for quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis Gathering data using agreed methods, including fieldwork which will involve travel and visits across the UK Undertaking both quantitative and qualitative analysis, including data entry and using relevant software packages Designing and undertaking economic analysis e.g. cost-effectiveness or cost benefit analyses Writing reports and other publications and articles c) Organisational Issues Contribute to the growth of the NDTi research and evaluation function and activity Page 2 of 5 March 2016 Contribute to the organisational life of the NDTi, through being a positive and supportive colleague to other NDTi staff, including through active participation in NDTi staff meetings Ensure that all organisational process and system requirements are adhered to in order to support the business and financial operation of NDTi Adhere to all aspects of the Staff Handbook whilst working for NDTi d) Other responsibilities Ensure that all work is delivered in line with the NDTi’s vision and purpose and that all actions reflect the spirit and intent of the NDTi’s desire to promote and achieve positive lives for those who are, or are at risk of being, excluded from society including our organisation’s commitment to equality of opportunity Undertake any other reasonable requirements of the organisation in line with the purpose and spirit of this job description, and agreed with their line manager 4. Page 3 of 5 March 2016 PERSON SPECIFICATION Job Title: Research and Evaluation Officer Department / Section: NDTi Research and Evaluation Team Criteria Essential Desirable Qualifications Honours degree or equivalent in relevant social sciences subject Knowledge, Experience & Skills Knowledge and understanding of a broad range of research and evaluation methods, and the ability to identify methods appropriate for the research question Minimum of 2 years’ experience of undertaking fieldwork on research and/or evaluation projects in a related field including quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis. Familiarity with statistical and analytical packages, such as SPSS, for undertaking quantitative and qualitative data analysis Experience of organising collating and analysing complex data sets utilising both quantitative and qualitative methodologies Experience of writing reports including for publication Very strong written and verbal communication skills Knowledge and experience of issues around social inclusion Experience of or interest in developing economic analysis expertise.
