Custom-built emergency communications vehicles
A National Disaster Recovery (NDR) Emergency
Communications Vehicle at the Miami, FL
demonstration site. The van is used to establish
voice and data communications to a recovery site
using a satellite link to the AT&T Network.

AT&T has a fleet of custom-built emergency communications vehicles with
satellite uplink facilities that can be immediately deployed to establish
command centers and communications capabilities. These are fullyequipped, completely self-sufficient centers. They are equipped with
generators, a satellite dish for constant communications, LAN connectivity
and a PBX phone system, and provide room for more than thirty (30)
technicians.

Since the last hurricane season, AT&T has:
•
Purchased 158 additional portable generators for regional
deployment
•
Added more than 30 portable generators to local inventories for
Florida
•
Installed permanent generators at more than 175 strategic remote
terminal sites in Florida
The increased availability of back-up power will minimize outages.

season:

Over 97% of its utility poles remained intact following Hurricane
Wilma.
•
AT&T Florida strives to incorporate lessons learned into better
practices and procedures for the future.
•
AT&T Florida believes that the new and/or improved practices and
procedures will minimize damages and outages in future storms.
