July 2012 Ref:POL0055 Salary Review Procedure (Support Staff) 1 Introduction 1.1 The purpose of this procedure is to facilitate a clear and objective salary review for support staff, in conjunction with the job evaluation process. 1.2 This process identifies the stages, timescales and responsibilities of those involved in the review process. 1.3 The windows of opportunity to apply for a salary review to be undertaken will open one in each academic year. Date 1 - 1 February – 28 February Salaries will only be reviewed outside of this windows if there are extenuating circumstances. Following on SMT panel meeting all recommendations will then be ratified at the following Corporation meeting. 1.4 Outcomes of the reviews will be known to the applicant as soon as reasonable after the Corporation meeting. The date of commencement of the new salary will be notified in the letter from the panel. (It will not be retrospective.) 1.5 The College’s financial position and ability to pay salary increases will be taken into account when considering each cycle of reviews. 1.6 All applications for salary review must be made using the appropriate documentation (Appendix A) and be submitted at the appropriate time. 1.7 All application forms must be completed in full and completed in each section by the appropriate line manager. 1.8 Applications which are not supported by the line manager should be returned to the applicant by the line manager with a full explanation for their none support. 1.9 Appeals against any aspect of this process should be made in accordance with the College’s Staff Grievance Procedure. 1.10 Staff who feel that their role and job description have changed should apply to have their job evaluated, using form (Appendix B). 1.11 Staff who feel that their job role/description has not changed, but that their contribution and achievement within that role, including achievement of specific targets set by their line manager has increased demonstrably, have access to apply for their salary to be reviewed under this process. 1.12 Staff must have completed one years service prior to submitting an application for salary review. July 2012 Page - 1 - Ref:POL0055 APPLYING FOR SALARY REVIEW Has job role description changed NO YES Have you completed one years service Apply for Job Evaluation (Form Appendix B) YES NO No further action Has your contribution/achievement demonstrably increased Return to Personnel YES NO Apply for Salary Review (Appendix A) No further action Applicant completes form in full Line Manager completes section form in full Supported Not Supported Return to applicant with reason Director completes form in full Support Not Support Pass to Deputy Principal to log and submit to Panel Response to applicant July 2012 Appeal Page - 2 - Ref:POL0055 Salary Review Procedure (Support Staff) 2 Salary Scales and Fixed Points 2.1 All staff will be appointed to a fixed point. 2.2 The salary for the fixed point for new posts will be ascertained from the post being subject to the job evaluation process. 3 Target Setting & Achievement 3.1 Line Managers when conducting appraisals should in discussion with the appraisee consider setting some targets which would stretch the role of the appraisee and which could be used as demonstrable evidence to prove/negate a claim under salary review. 3.2 Not all appraisees will be suitable for such stretch target setting or have the desire to participate in this process. 3.3 The achievement of appraisal targets in line with the job role will not be acceptable as demonstrable evidence. 3.4 Objective stretch targets could include: Achievement of qualifications as specified for new starters by the job description/person specification as requirements of the post holder The assumption of extra responsibilities Introduction of new work practices/processes Leading of specific groups/areas Long term cover for higher ranking colleagues. The Manager completes section 2 of Review Form. The Director completes section 3 of Review Form. Form is passed to Deputy Principal to log and present to SMT panel. SMT panel meet to review all/any applications at relevant time. Deputy Principal notifies applicants by letter following the outcome of the Corporation meeting to consider budgets.
