The Adapted Recreation program provides competitive and recreational opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
Although these programs are designed specifically for individuals with disabilities, everyone is encouraged and welcome to attend.
Extra wheelchairs are available and waiting on you to get involved. Bring a friend and take part in our many new and exciting
activities!
Support is available to assist with transferring and dressing upon request.

Adaptive Aquatics- You do not need to know how to swim in order to participate in this program. Come see what it is all
about, increase your range of motion and flexibility, learn basic swimming skills and just have fun!

Intramurals - This energetic and fun program is open to all skill levels. Each week we will play one of the following;
football, handball, disc golf and other exciting activities. This is a great way to learn a new skill, sweat a little, and meet
new people.

Outdoor Recreation-This program offers students a unique opportunity to participate in various outdoor activities such as
kayaking, skiing and climbing to name a few. Come join us on an outdoor adventure!

Special Events- We provide the transportation; all you have to do is come along for the ride. See the schedule for
specific events and times. Seating is limited so be sure to sign up early.

Workout Buddy- Adapted recreation welcomes you to participate in the Workout Buddy Program. The mission of this
program is to introduce students with disabilities to various modes of sport and exercise. Having assistance may increase
efficiency of the workout time as well as the enjoyment. Support is available to assist with transferring and dressing upon
request.

Adapted recreational sports (ARS) can accommodate numerous disabilities and situations. Whether it be replacing intramural soccer balls with brightly colored
ones for patrons with limited vision or adjusting the speed of instruction in aerobics classes, all student or member needs can be accommodated. These services
are offered to students and members at no extra cost.
To arrange for services, please fill out the form under the documents on the upper right corner of this page and return it to the ARS office at B106 RPAC or via fax
to (614) 292-4105. To ensure the requested accommodation, please notify the specific program/facility at least two weeks in advance. Direct accommodation

Sports F.U.S.I.O.N
The mission of Sports F.U.S.I.O.N., an Ohio State student organization, is to provide students with and without disabilities the information, opportunities, and
accommodations to fully participate in recreational programs at The Ohio State University.
Participate in the wide array of activities from rock climbing and open rec basketball to indoor and outdoor group activities designed to be demonstrative and will let
students experience new and familiar sports. Participation through Recreational Sports Programming, including cardio and weight training, team sports, fitness
classes, and aquatics, will be encouraged, and opportunities to participate will be provided. Another important purpose of the group is for students to have FUN
engaging with their peers in an inclusive, relaxed setting.

Recreational Tree Climbing is a new way to get a birsds eye view of the gorgous Ravine and get a little adrenaline rush at the same
time! We will be ascending ropes that are attached to the gorgous trees that make this Campus Beautiful. Learn to climb a tree in a
safe, supervised environment. Enjoy reaching heights of 30 feet and beyond!


This is a chance for students of all abilities to have a chance to enjoy the outdoors. The inclusive rec specific trips however are for

The rule difference between standard volleyball is that part of your pelvic region must be in contact with the floor when you make

Adaptive Climbing Program
The Adaptive Climbing Program has been created to assist students with different abilities to experience the joys and benefits of climbing. Our goal is to
empower every participant that visits the climbing tower to reach their potential. Whether you are a complete beginner or experienced climber we
gladly welcome your participation.
We possess specialty adaptive climbing equipment for individuals with limited mobility in extremities, as well as partial paralysis. Participants with a
prosthetic limb can learn to use it in a way to help propel them up the rock face. Paraplegics and quadriplegics can use handlebar-style "ascenders" to
grip a rope and ratchet themselves up. We also have different seat climbing harnesses with extra strapping and padding to help with pressure issues for
those of us that don't have feeling.

The RWC partners with UCF students enrolled in the Doctorate in Physical Therapy program to provide assisted workouts. All Student Assisted
Workout Trainers work in consultation with UCF Physical Therapy Faculty members. This program is designed to support students with disabilities in
creating and maintaining an exercise plan.
Upon beginning the program, each student will receive individualized attention in achieving their fitness goals. Please click on the link below and fill

Cal Rec Sports is committed to maintaining a diverse range of workout equipment. The RSF currently has 19 pieces of equipment accessi ble to people
living with disabilities. The majority of these machines are recently purchased Nautilus One machines that boast a n umber of accessible-friendly
features. Read the equipment descriptions below to learn more about the machines and their features.
SCIFIT Total Body

The SCIFIT Total Body machine is useful to workout the upper and lower body independently or simultaneously. The unit is easy to adjust and has a
computer program with various workout options. The seat swivels for easy access and can be removed to accommodate wheelchairs .
Active and Passive Trainer (APT)

The APT 5 machine is fully adjustable and can accommodate wheelchairs for a variety of workouts for patrons with limited mobi lity. The machine is
excellent for increasing blood circulation, stamina, strength, range of moti on (ROM), bladder control, and muscle tone. Use of the machine is also known
to decrease atrophy, muscle spasms, and swelling.
Disability Reserved Precor 966i Treadmill

The RSF has a Precore 966i state-of-the-art treadmill reserved for patrons with disabilities. Next to the treadmill is a reserved space to store medical
devices such as wheelchairs or walkers, and serves as a transferring area. The treadmill is number 17 (need to verify) and is located near an accessible
restroom.
Free Motion Dual Cross
LOCATION: WEIGHT ROOM EXTENSION
From the competitive body builder to a person with a disability, the Free Motion Dual Cross delivers a comprehensive workout for numerous muscles.
With easy to adjust beams and weights, this machine can accommodate many types of disabilities and wheelchair users.
Colorado-Saratoga Upper Ergometer Cycle

This hand cycle is popular among hospital and rehabilitation centers all over the world and is available to Cal Star members at the RSF. The unit
accommodates wheelchairs, is fully adjustable, and helps to increase upper body strength along with providing a cardiovascula r workout.
Transfer Boards
LOCATION: FIT STAFF DESK IN THE MAIN WEI GHT ROOM
Transfer boards are available to help wheelchair users transition easily onto various workout machines and pool lifts. Transfer boards ca n be checked
out in the RSF at the fit staff desk in the main weight room. Lifeguards can also provide transfer boards at the Hears t, Spieker, and Strawberry Canyon
pools.
Various Grasping Cuffs and Support Straps
LOCATION: FIT STAFF DESK IN THE MAIN WEI GHT ROOM
Numerous grasping cuffs for ankles, wrists, and hands are available at the fit staff desk in the main RSF weight room t o assist patrons during their
workouts. Elastic stretch bands are also available to provide optimal support.
Low Profile Stretching Table(APT)
LOCATION: SECOND FLOOR MEZZANINE
The low profile stretching table allows for easy transfers from wheelchairs and other medical devices; The cushioned table is useful for a variety of
stretching techniques and accommodates two people. Due to the popularity of table, reservations must be ma de at the link below.
Uppertone Gym
LOCATION: WEIGHT ROOM EXTENSION
The Uppertone Gym was developed by a quadriplegic to do all the necessary upper body exercises necessary for rehabilitation a nd maintenance,
without any assistance. The design allows many users with spinal cord injuries to independently make all the adjustments, including resistance, without
hand grip strength, cuffs, or assistance. Over twenty different upper body exercises are available with the Uppertone.
Nautilus Universal Gym Equipment
LOCATION: WEIGHT ROOM EXTENSION
The Nautilus One equipment makes transferring from a wheelchair easier because of designs that minimize obstacles on the stru ctures and open up
space around the machines. Other features include easily adjustable di als placed in convenient locations for changing weight levels, as well as many
machines that have weights that are adjustable in increments of 1 lb. instead of 10 lbs. — allowing users to increase weight more gradually.
Hydraulically adjustable seats, which move up and down with ease, will make workouts easier for everyone who has struggled with adjusting stubborn
seats. Large and colorful signs will aid patrons with visual impairments.

Athletic Yoga - Be prepared to sweat in this athletic-based mind/body class, improving more than just flexibility and balance. The

Aqua Zumba - The fitness craze that fuses Latin-based rhythms with motivating music, unique moves, and challenging

MIND & BODY CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Restorative Yoga Restorative Yoga focuses on stilling the mind within postures while maintaining alignment with integrity to the structural system. The instructor will arrange for the neccessary
props to be available to you and poses will be held for an extended period of time, focusing on restoring the body and the mind.
Pilates - Pilates engages the mind and conditions the body with a blend of strength and flexibility. With a focus on muscle balance, Pilates helps to improve posture and range
of motion by strengthening weaker muscle groups and stretching the over-worked muscles. Detailed instruction on alignment will be given in this session, and small equipment
may be introduced.
Yoga/Pilates Fusion Yoga/Pilates fusion combines elements from Yoga and Pilates practices. This class focuses on breathing, relaxation, centering, strength, precision, flexibility, and musclebalance to give you the ultimate mind-body experience.
Barre Fusion - Barre Lean is a unique total body workout utilizing the ballet barre, light dumbbells, and dance-inspired moves to perform small isometric movements that
create long, lean muscles.
CARDIO CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Step
A choreographed cardiovascular workout using the step bench with adjustable step heights, allowing you to customize your own workout.
Starter Step
This class is designed for the first-time stepper. Learn the basic stepping patterns used in the more advanced step classes while still getting the benefits of a great
cardiovascular workout. Look like a pro by learning from step-one!
Dance Step
Looking for flair and creative choreography? This is the Step class for you. Intricate and off-tempo step combos make this step class exciting! You won't forget you're getting a
super cardio workout.
Step N Tone
This is a class for both males and females who enjoy a challenge! This 1-hour session consists of aerobic step training with intervals of resistance training. This class works all
major muscle groups and is designed specifically to improve strength and cardiovascular conditioning. If steady state and boredom is not your thing, this class is for you!
Cardio Xplosion
This is the ULTIMATE interval class. Forget the tricky choreography of aerobics, this class is geared to give you a Total Body Conditioning workout without all the frill! We will
focus on testing your strength and muscular endurance and push your anaerobic threshold by introducing plyometrics, coordination drills, and sports specific exercises. Bringing
a towel and a water bottle is highly recommended. If you want a REAL challenge, then this class is for you
Power Kick
It's Kickboxing with intervals of strength training. Feel powerful AND strong by combining the two elements and get a great workout.
Kickboxing
A vigorous workout using the training routines of kickboxers adapted to the mainstream general public. The objective is to get a great workout and learn how to use your hands
and feet to protect yourself. Increase self-confidence, flexibility, coordination, speed and stamina while having fun! Learn how to jab, punch, kick and defend yourself while
improving your speed and power. Kickboxing is the workout with a KICK!
Tabata Boxing
This class is a power packed fusion of boxing and the Tabata protocol. A Tabata workout is an interval training cycle of 20 seconds of max intensity, followed by 10 seconds of
rest, repeated without pause 8 times for a total of four minutes. Looking for a challenge? Then Tabata Boxing is for you!
Double Impact
Is your love for cardio never ending? Then this class is for you. Double Impact will combine two different types of cardio each week to keep you on your toes and pouring sweat.
This class is a mixture of step, kickboxing, athletic intervals, and dance. You never know what the instructor will pick for the day. Be prepared for a fun packed hour that is
constantly changing!
Spinning - 40 Minute Ride You don't need to know how to ride a bicycle to take this class; you'll be on a Johnny G Spinner! These are 40-minute or 50 minute stationary bike classes led by an instructor
will take you for an imaginary ride. The intensity of the class is always controlled by you so first timers and the highly trained athlete can get excellent workouts in the same
class! Come see for yourself what all the excitement is about. The only requirements are that you bring a towel, water bottle, and an imagination--cause you’re going tobe in for
the ride of your life! The classes are limited to 25 participants per session. New students should show up 10 min. early to be set up properly on the bike by the instructor. You
must be seated on your bike and ready to go 5 min. prior to class start or we give your bike away!
Spin and RAB Abs You get a great 40 min. ride plus a killer Resist-A-Ball abdominal workout to boot! Only 7 minutes on the ball! This class runs for approximately 1 hour--from start to finish. You
must be seated on your bike 5 min. prior to class start or we give your bike away!
Cardio Party Ditch the workout! Join the party! Need cardio? Love to dance? Get ready to shake and sweat! No rhythm required! Add fun to your fitness with this high-intensity class that
fuses the latest hip hop, dance and latin music with easy-to-follow dance routines.
Xtreme Fit XtremeFit is an explosive strength and conditioning fitness class that promotes overall fitness by utlizing one's own body weight exercises (pull-ups, push-ups, etc), sprints and
free weight exercises. Every exercise can always be individually scaled and varied to any skill level, just come ready to WORK HARD!

If you want to add some variety to your weight training routine, Body Tone is the class for you. The workout concentrates on all major muscle groups using calisthenics, steps,

Aqua Tone
This water workout includes cardio and resistance training to help tone and sculpt without impact to the joints. Aqua Tone is suitable for every fitness level - from beginners to
elite athletes. This class builds muscle, increases aerobic fitness, improves flexibility and helps control weight. No swimming skills needed!
Power Interval
This high intensity class combines athletic aerobic movements with strength and stabilization exercises. You will work out for short bursts of time and learn unique total body
movements during your recovery between intervals.
Barre Fusion - Barre Fusion is a unique total body workout utilizing the ballet barre, light dumbbells, and dance-inspired moves to perform small isometric movements that
create long, lean muscles.
Step N Tone
This is a class for both males and females who enjoy a challenge! This 1-hour session consists of aerobic step training with intervals of resistance training. This class works all
major muscle groups and is designed specifically to improve strength and cardiovascular conditioning. If steady state and boredom is not your thing, this class is for you!
Cardio Xplosion
This is the ULTIMATE interval class. Forget the tricky choreography of aerobics, this class is geared to give you a Total Body Conditioning workout without all the frill! We will
focus on testing your strength and muscular endurance and push your anaerobic threshold by introducing plyometrics, coordination drills, and sports specific exercises. Bringing
a towel and a water bottle is highly recommended. If you want a REAL challenge, then this class is for you
HIIT Beat
A full-body strength and cardio workout, this class will challenge you with high intensity interval training and supersets. Periods of work are alternated with short periods of rest
or active recovery, all choreographed to follow the music.
GTS Try out a full-body, 45 minute strength workout on the Gravity Training System. Classes are limited to eight participants.
Boxing Bag Freeplay
This hour is dedicated to open play on the boxing bags in Leach Room 2. The room will be monitored by a Certified Personal Trainer who will be available to offer advice and
respond to emergency situations.
