Term 2 Newsletter
Welcome back everyone, I trust that you all had a wonderful Easter break, & are all ready to get
back & play some great tennis in term 2.
Coaching Fees for 2012:
As in term 1, all Squad & Cardio Tennis lessons for term 2 will be invoiced at $9.00 per session
with no discount option available. Due to the steadily increasing council sports facility hire fees it
has become very difficult to continue to absorb the increases as we have done in the past.
Direct Deposit Option:
Please be advised you can pay all your Coaching Fees (Squad, Private, Cardio) as well as
Xpoint Entry Fees, Club Membership Fees, Product / Equipment Purchases, Holiday Clinic
Fees, Interclub Challenge Fees etc by direct deposit. Please remember to put your name as a
reference! The account details are as follows:
BSB: 012563
A/C #: 261970785
A/C Name: Cagney Tennis Academy
New Staff Member:
Towards the end of term 1, we had a new member of staff commence work with us. Matthew
Heitmeyer comes to us after spending 18 months learning his craft & gaining experience
coaching at Margaret Court Tennis Academy in Albury. He comes highly recommended with all
references & reports indicating that he will be a fantastic asset to our academy & a very
valuable resource that many of our students will be able to tap into to further develop their
tennis games. Matthew will be working with us on Mondays, Tuesdays & Fridays during term 2
and beyond.
Xpoint Information:
The 1st Lake Macquarie Xpoint Competitions for the year have been up & running now for about
4 weeks & all participants have been enjoying some very valuable match play & competition
experience. Many of our teams are doing extremely well across a variety of divisions & we look
forward to hopefully seeing them competing in the semi finals & finals in a few weeks time. The
2nd lot of Xpoint Competitions will be starting Friday 22nd June & Saturday 23rd June. Entries
close for all competitions on Tuesday 12th June. Entry forms will be available at the courts from
the 1st week back of coaching as well as online. These competitions are an excellent way to
practise the skills learned at coaching. Our Junior Beginner comp runs on Saturday mornings &
involves 2 children in a unisex team playing a set of doubles & a set each of singles over a 90
minute period. The comp runs for 6-7 weeks with semi’s & finals in weeks 7 & 8, & matches are
played at our courts every week. Our mainstream Junior Intermediate & Advanced comp runs
on Friday afternoon/evening & involves 2 children in a unisex team playing a set of doubles & a
set each of singles over a 90 minute period. The comp runs for 7 weeks with semi’s & finals in
weeks 8 & 9, & matches are played at Eleebana, Valentine & Redhead, Belmont (& occasionally
Hillsborough) Tennis Centres. Our Ladies Social/Club “comp” runs on Saturday afternoons &
involves 2 ladies playing 2 sets of doubles over a 60 minute period. The comp runs for 6- 7
weeks & is run on a “first past the post” basis (the team at the top of the ladder after all rounds
are played wins – no semi’s & finals). All matches are played at Eleebana Tennis Centre. We
are always looking for new players in all our competitions, particularly the ladies comp, and any
new players are more than welcome. If you’re interested or even just want some more
information on any of the comps, please don’t hesitate to ask any of our staff at the courts or call
me on 0412 233 310.

Adult Coaching Programme:
Our Adult Coaching Programme continues this term with our squad size growing in numbers
towards the end of last term. It runs on Tuesday evenings 7:45-8:45pm as well as Thursday
morning 9:15-10:15am. This programme caters to beginner level players looking to learn how to
play tennis, or experienced players looking to get back into tennis with some refresher lessons.
Class size is small, with a maximum of 6 & they’re designed to teach the basics of playing as
well as technique. They have been very enjoyable for our participants & we would like to start
more. We are particularly keen to start some during the mornings for mum’s after they’ve
dropped the kids off to school. If you are interested in joining a class (or want to bring a friend
with you) please see any of the staff at the courts.
Cardio Tennis:
Cardio Tennis classes at Cagney Tennis Academy are continuing in 2012. Over the last 18
months, we have added a little different type of training to some of the classes to increase the
intensity & diversity of each workout. These changes were in the higher intensity classes &
involve compound all over body work. Participants enjoy their regular workout classes & have
improved their fitness level as well as their tennis skills. The intensity level of each class is
tailored to the fitness levels of the participants. The drills are all about hitting lots of tennis balls
in a short amount of time but tennis skills are not a necessity as we have classes for beginners
to advanced players. Cagney Tennis Academy is the first centre to pioneer Cardio Tennis in
Australia. Classes are currently running at Eleebana Tennis Centre on Monday 9:15-10:15am &
7:30-8:30pm, Tuesday 9:30-10:30am, 2-3pm & 5:45-6:45pm, Wednesday 6:15-7:15pm, &
Friday 9:15-10:15am. We have vacancies in some of these classes & would like to start new
classes as well. If you have a couple of friends that want to give it a go, why not let us know &
we can start your own Cardio Tennis class at a time that suits you? These classes are an
excellent way to improve your fitness & help you keep in shape over the colder Winter months
when motivation is so much harder to find. It’s also a great way to add variety to your existing
fitness program. If you are interested in starting a Cardio class to improve your fitness, please
contact us as we would love to get you started.
Group & Squad Vacancies:
We currently have vacancies in some of our group & squad lessons for term 2 at both of our
centres. There are vacancies for players of all standards from beginner to advanced on some
days of the week Mon-Sat. If you are interested in starting a class, joining a 2nd class or maybe
have a friend that is keen to start, come & see us so that we can give you the times of the
classes that are suitable for you.
Private Lessons:
The cost of private lessons for term 2 will remain the same & are as follows::
30 mins - $29.00
45 mins - $44.00
60 mins - $58.00
Please note that there are limited vacancies available at Eleebana as well as Macquarie College
for term 2. You should contact us to organise a time if you feel you need a brush up on your
game or you want to get ahead of the competition.
Club Membership:
Eleebana Tennis Club membership fees will be due at the end of the term & are compulsory for
all group / squad / private coaching & cardio students. Membership entitles you to hire the
courts for half price day or night as well as use of the kitchenette & BBQ facilities.

Membership forms will be available from the staff at CTA & sent home with your term 3 invoices.
This is a council stipulation that all players having coaching must join the tennis club to receive
an appropriate & reasonable level of insurance cover. These fees are quite a bit cheaper than
nearby clubs & with just 3 hours of court hire per year, they can be recouped. It also allows the
club some small funding which it can use to maintain the complex and also look towards
resurfacing the courts in the near future.
Court Hire Charges:
Eleebana Tennis Club court hire rates for 2012 are as follows: $12 p/hour for day hire & $14
p/hour for night hire. If you are a member of the tennis club, the rates are half price. If you are
not a member, you will need to pay the court hire rate as there is no free play. This will be
policed a lot more heavily during term 2 as there have been people walking onto the courts to
play for free while coaching is on other courts, or while other paying hirers are using the courts.
If you would like to join the tennis club please see any of the coaching staff at the courts to get a
membership form.
Club Developments:
The damage to the court surfaces by cockatoos seems to have subsided with the change of
season and hopefully they will continue to stay away from our courts over the coming months.
We are still investigating the options for resurfacing and would welcome any constructive &
useful feedback from our clients. It is not known at the time of writing when the resurfacing will
take place nor which surface will be put down but more information will be provided in future
newsletters.
