DAILY NEWS, September 15th Stricter penalties for non-payers of earnings taxes and contributions, says Nikezic State Secretary at the Serbian Finance Ministry Dusan Nikezic has stated that the government is aware that many employers avoid paying earnings taxes and contributions, which is why legal regulations regarding this issue will be altered and stricter penalties imposed. The sanctions will be stricter and more efficient, and no one will be able to pay only a net salary without paying the gross amount, which includes all taxes and contributions, Nikezic stated in an interview for the Belgrade-based daily Blic, adding that an increase in VAT is not planned for 2012. As for the state's deadlines, Nikezic stressed that the Ministries of Finance and Economy and Regional Development will jointly propose a systemic solution, adding that deadlines will be tighter and that the state will secure funds for the meeting of obligations, which will also apply to local authorities. "We agreed with the IMF on the frameworks for an increase in revenues and reduction of expenditures, and during their next visit in November, we will discuss this in more details. Roughly speaking, we have about EUR 800 million of deficit, but we will compensate it primarily through smaller expenditures," Nikezic said regarding the 2012 budget.
