Activity 19 – ‘Strategies & Initiatives’
So we know the barriers, we know the cultural influences all we need now is the
strategies and initiatives to overcome these.
See what you can find out about those initiatives listed below, the first one is done
for you to give you an idea of what we are looking for (you may recognise if from
Level 2)…
In 2002 the UK government published Game Plan: A strategy for delivering the
Governments sport and physical activity objectives.
The overall aim was:
“To increase significantly levels of sport and physical activity, particularly among
disadvantaged groups and to achieve continued levels of success in international
competition.”
The Game Plan document is huge, you are quite welcome to download and have a read if
you want it however, the main priorities of Game Plan were:
 To begin raising mass participation for young people and adults, especially women
and the elderly
 To improves the delivery of sport and physical activity by central government
 To reduce bureaucracy and increase funding direct to the sports user, Sport England
and UK Sport
 To improve the delivery of sport and physical activity by non-governmental bodies
 To improve the delivery of sport and physical activity by local government and the
NHS.
