SSH Accreditation and Certification
Juli Maxworthy
SSH Accreditation Committee Chair
Incoming Secretary, SSH Board of Directors
Objectives
 Define certification and accreditation.
 Identify common sources of certification and
accreditation in healthcare simulation.
 Consider the pros and cons of healthcare simulation
accreditation and certification.
Definitions
 Accreditation
 to recognize or vouch for as conforming with a standard
 a process of validation that an institution is compliant with
standards
 Certification
 official approval to do something professionally or legally
 confirmation of certain characteristics of an object, person, or
organization
Accreditation
SSH Accreditation
The Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH)
recognizes organizations or groups with dedicated
resources (personnel and equipment) whose mission is
specifically targeted toward improving patient safety
and outcomes through assessment, research, advocacy
and education using simulation technologies and
methodologies.
