9 June 2017, Vilnius FOREIGN TRADE IN APRIL 2017 Statistics Lithuania informs that, based on non-final data obtained from customs declarations, Intrastat reporting and VAT returns data, exports in April 2017 amounted to 2 billion, imports – EUR 2.3 billion. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin amounted to EUR 1.1 billion. The foreign trade deficit of Lithuania amounted to EUR 316.8 million. Over the month (April 2017, against March), exports decreased by 12.3, imports – 6.6 per cent. The decrease in exports was influenced by a decrease in exports of petroleum products (11.6 per cent), furniture (18.3 per cent) and fertilisers (34.8 per cent). The decrease in imports was influenced by a decrease in imports of ground vehicles (24 per cent), machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (10.7 per cent) and pharmaceuticals (15 per cent). Mineral products excluded, exports decreased by 12.4, imports – 11.3 per cent. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 14.2 per cent, mineral products excluded – 16 per cent. Over the year (April 2017, against April 2016), exports increased by 9.4, imports – 10.7 per cent. The increase in exports was influenced by an increase in exports of petroleum products (46.2 per cent) (amount in tons increased by 3.7 per cent), machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (19.2 per cent) and ground vehicles (35 per cent). The increase in imports was determined by an increase in imports of crude petroleum (72.1 per cent) (amount in tons increased by 16 per cent), electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (21.4 per cent), machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (13.1 per cent). Mineral products excluded, exports increased by 6.1, imports – 5.5 per cent. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 12.3 per cent, mineral products excluded – 3.3 per cent. In January–April 2017, against the same period of 2016, exports and imports increased by 15.4 and 17.4 per cent respectively. The increase in exports was determined by an increase in exports of petroleum products (47.9 per cent) (amount in tons decreased by 4.8 per cent), machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (21.2 per cent), electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (15.9 per cent). The increase in imports was influenced by an increase in imports of crude petroleum (90.9 per cent) (amount in tons increased by 6.9 per cent), ground vehicles (13 per cent), electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (15 per cent). Mineral products excluded, exports increased by 11.4, imports – 10.9 per cent. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 16.5 per cent, mineral products excluded – 9 per cent. In January–April 2017, the most important Lithuania’s partners in exports were Russia (13.5 per cent), Latvia (9.7 per cent), Poland (8.7 per cent) and Germany (7.5 per cent), while in imports – Russia (13.4 per cent), Germany (11.7 per cent), Poland (10.5 per cent) and Latvia (7.3 per cent). Most of the goods of Lithuanian origin were exported to Germany (9.6 per cent), Poland (9 per cent), the United States (8.5 per cent), Sweden (7.6 per cent) and Latvia (7.1 per cent). In January–April 2017, the largest share in Lithuania’s exports and imports fell within mineral products (14.6 and 20.8 respectively), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (15.2 and 17.5 per cent respectively) and products of the chemical and allied industries (10.6 and 12.2 per cent respectively). As for the goods of Lithuanian origin, the largest share in exports fell within petroleum products (19.2 per cent), miscellaneous manufactured articles (11.9 per cent), prepared foodstuffs, beverages, spirits and tobacco (8.9 per cent), products of the chemical and allied industries (7.9 per cent). 2 Table 1.
