Solo under 35 years This international award was established in honour of the world-renowned tenor, Stuart Burrows. The prestigious prize is to advance the career of a young soloist. Rules and Regulations THE WINNER The winner will receive a prize of £4,000. OTHER PRIZES All other finalists will receive an equal share from a £1000 prize fund. BROADCAST It is expected that the competition will be broadcast. The appropriate broadcasting authority and the competition will own all rights in the recording in perpetuity throughout the world in all media now known or hereafter invented without payment to any finalist. APPLICATIONS The competition is open to anyone, from any country, who will be under the age of 35 on the day of the competition. Applications must be sent to Anne Milcoy, “The Stuart Burrows International Voice Award, University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Lampeter Campus, Lampeter, South Wales,SA48 7ED”, by the closing date on the 5 May 2017. The organisers reserve the right to extend the closing date. Applications should be accompanied by the following, which will not be returned: (i) a recording of the applicant made within the last 2 years, in CD format. (ii) a certified copy of birth certificate/passport (iii) a curriculum vitae noting higher education, names of teachers etc. 1 (iv) competitors are required to submit two copies of the songs you intend to sing in the preliminary round and the final with the application. You must mark any cuts required. If we do not receive the music your application will be void. Applications introduced in accordance with the regulations as stipulated above will be examined by the organisers, whose decision is final. A letter of confirmation will then be sent out to each successful applicant. PRELIMINARY ROUND Venue and Dates The preliminaries will be held in the University Chapel, University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Carmarthen Campus, Carmarthen SA31 3EP on 11 June 2017. Times The competitors will receive a letter noting the time of their preliminary round. THE FINAL The final will be held in the University Chapel, University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Carmarthen Campus on Sunday evening 11 June 2017 at 7.30pm. PROGRAMME For the preliminary round each competitor is required to submit a contrasting programme not exceeding 10 minutes in duration (opera/ oratorio/ lieder/song). For the final, competitors should prepare a contrasting programme not exceeding 15 minutes in duration. The competitors are advised to vary their programme from the previous round. ACCOMPANIMENT Each singer will be required to use the Official Accompanists as appointed by the organisers. Each singer will have specific rehearsal times with the accompanists. JURY The organisers will select a jury of internationally famous personalities from the musical world without taking into account any racial, ideological, political or linguistic considerations. The jury will be presided over by a representative of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. This is a non-voting role and this person will have no input into the final decision. The decision of the jury is final. 2 EXPENSES Expenses will not be paid to anyone who takes part in the competition. The prizes are paid as stated earlier in this document only.
