Kids won’t learn more until kids do more!! Please Do Now!!! Respond to the following question. What are the steps of the scientific method? When complete, please read your response to a neighbor and discuss how your views are similar and/or different. Scientific Method Introduction: Scientists have helped us learn about the world around us by using a process. You have used the same process (even though you may not be aware of it!!)!!! Directions: 1. Read and mark the text: Highlight what stands out. Question mark (?) what’s confusing. Circle any unfamiliar words or terms. 2. “Talk to the text,” write connections and/or questions in the margins. 3. When complete, discuss the article with a partner, and work together to complete your notes template. Purpose: Explain each step of the scientific method? Why is the scientific method important? Define variable. Define controlled experiment. Explain why it is important to conduct a controlled experiment. List and explain the steps of the scientific method. 1. Observation – See something around you that makes you wonder. 2. Ask a question – A question that we can test/ conduct an experiment. 3. Hypothesis – An idea that may answer your question. 4. Test – Conduct a test or experiment to test your hypothesis. 5. Analyze data – Use your brain power to see what your data tells you. 6. Conclusion – Draw a conclusion based on your data. Define variable. Anything that can be changed in an experiment that can affect the outcome. Why is it important to conduct a controlled experiment? (Include the definition of controlled experiment in your response.) A controlled experiment is one in which only one variable can be changed. It is important to change only one variable so we know how it affects the outcome.
