Guide to activating your student computer account

Thank you for accepting your unconditional offer of a place at the University of Sheffield.
If you would like to decline or defer your place, you will need to send details to the Admissions Service. You
can contact them by emailing [email protected]
You are required to complete a number of tasks before you start your studies. Taking these steps in advance of
your arrival will greatly speed up the registration process when you get to University.
Your username is abc16xy. You can create your Password by following the link below:
https://www.shef.ac.uk/account-management/applicant/activate
Once you have created your password your tasks can be accessed by logging in to the Applicant portal
(https://www.shef.ac.uk/pre-registration).

Setting up your username and password
Follow the instructions and click on the link: https://www.shef.ac.uk/accountmanagement/applicant/activate to activate your account.
You will then see the following page:
Click Next
 Step 1 – Confirm your applicant identity
Enter your date of birth and either your username, email address, UCAS ID or Applicant
Number (do not complete more than one of these fields). Click Next.

 Step 2 – Select a contact method
In order for us to confirm you are the one setting up the account, and no one else, a
verification code will need to be sent to your email address or phone number. Please select
your preferred method of contact from the list on this page and click Next.
 Step 3 – Enter Verification code

A verification code will be sent to the email/ phone number chosen above. A copy of
the Account Activation Verification Code email that is sent out is show below:
Once the code has been received it must be entered in the field shown below. Click Next.
 Step 4 – Choose Password
Please choose a password. The password must be between 8-30 characters, should use
upper and lower case letters and must include a number OR one of the characters $, # and _

The same Password will need to be entered twice for confirmation.
Click Next .
 Step 5 – Finish
Once the password has been submitted, the process is complete. Wait a few minutes before
attempting to use the password.

We are contacting you to let you know that there are new pre-registration tasks for you to complete in the
Applicant portal. These include: Activating your Student Computer Account, Uploading a photograph for your
UCard (University ID card)
Taking these steps in advance of your arrival will greatly speed up the registration process when you get to
University.

username and password.
Your Applicant username is ABC16XY. If you do not know your password, please go to:
https://www.shef.ac.uk/account-management/student/recover If you have any questions about the process
you can find more information at www.sheffield.ac.uk/registration. Alternatively you can contact us at
[email protected] or by calling the Helpline on (00 44) 114 222 1288 between 9am and 4.30pm,
Monday to Friday. (Please note that this email was sent to all of your email addresses on our system. Please
disregard any duplicates.)

You may have already activated your user name and password when you received the first email. If
this is the case, then you can just follow the link to pre-registration and log in using the details that
you have already set up.
If you have forgotten your password, or didn’t receive/act on the first email, you will need to follow
the link in the email (https://www.shef.ac.uk/account-management/student/recover) to
recover/set-up your password:
Click Next. After the above screen, the process is the same as Steps 1 to 5 outlined previously in this
document.
 Step 6 – Accessing Pre-registration

Once you have logged in to your pre-registration account, you will need to complete the task
Activate your student account. When you click on the task the following screen will be shown which
includes details of your computer account and University email:
Click Next.
Enter user name (if not already pre-populated) and click Next.
The password that was used at the start of the activation process should be entered in the next
screen:

Click Next and the process is complete.
You will receive an email confirming your account activation is complete:
